Seat time

   / Seat time #11
I am on a small farm so hay season is busy on the tractor. Winter is snow removal time. Last Saturday I spent nearly the whole day rolling my pasture and a neighbor's pasture. (smashing rocks back down) In a couple months I'll be cutting hay. For now it's removing an old barb wire/posts fence and putting up a new one.

Somebody mentioned they had had enough seat time. o_O Not me but then I've only been playing with them for 30 years...:p
I've hired out to the neighbor ladies. They wanted me to reclaim a small retention pond, Cut some now ditches to feed it diverting the rain water from the farmers field next door into the pond and put soil someplace else... SO it ended up being just as much driving back and forth as digging. Kind of a pain in the butt. She had no problem stopping me to talk. I would have made more If I charged $100 each time she had me stop
Anyway I got a couple hours in the last 2 evenings and and another push in the AM might finish it. Could have done a lot more visible work without all the driving back and forth. But I'm not really complaining. digging will teach you to work within the limits of your machine.
I came to this MX5200 from a bigger machine that was much stronger. It would carry 2Xs as much dirt... but it was big and clumsy in tight spaces like this job.

Yesterday spent mowing. Wife with finish mower on B26, I with brown tree cutter on M59. Cleared a section thru the woods that once was maintained for overhead power. Now utilities are underground. Trees, briars, and brush 3”thick. One tulip popular 40’ tall 8” at base. Clearing this allows me to see up to the big pasture when the leaves fall. The pup and I enjoy watching the deer romp around in the fall and winter from our chairs.
Then mowed the banks of the creek from the spring house. Have a bed of year round watercress if we don’t let it get too shaded. Now listed as superfood but old timers knew that long before. Will pick a mess to go into Sunday chicken and dumplings supper this evening.
Seat time is way of life. The work is mentality and physically good for us. Investments that pay a healthy return. Some fun, some chore but all for a good life.
