Secret to hooking up PTO shaft

If you have questions ask me. I'm one of the owners of the product and I just put it up for sale. I'll be making videos and and doing you tube here soon to show you how it works. Time to Get r done, yall!

Chris

I took a look at the web page. Nice job on that!
But a look at the device has me wondering about a couple of details.

First, Is lining up the four studs that much easier than lining up the six splines on the "usual" PTO? I've messed with coupling like that, and usually have a britches of a time getting the multiple studs to align. Perhaps there is some guide system that assists the operation.

Second: The additional length of the extra spud is going to cost some additional time checking and shortening shafts when required. I'm not sure that's a winning situation. And for close coupled applications, the added angle is not going to help (thinking of logging winches here)

Third (and final) Does that hitch pin really take all the over run torque without complaint? I suppose in these days of over running clutches inside the tractor, it may be a non-issue. But I've got a tractor that would put the full shredder inertia on that pin every time the throttle was rolled back. Seems like a "weak link".

Here's mine. A green and yellow John Deere PHD 300 post hole digger.
Connecting it to my orange Kubota has involved more new words in three languages by liberally compounding and mixing all languages together.
The previous owner decided to paint the inner slip shaft and I catch **** every time getting it all aligned, pin pushed, and then the shaft won't extend.
Took a wire wheel to it again last night and regreased it in hopes of it going together next time but I think one of them is prejudiced against the other.

Its easy! Just make sure everything lines up.

IF everything isn't moving smoooothly, I don't even try to hook it up.

INSTEAD, I find out why it doesn't move smoothly and correct it!!

So that's what the strange sounds is I've been herring, and I thought it was the wind from cold fronts coming through.

Me too, sometimes it involves a bigger hammer and a couple tubes of grease!!!

The more urgent the connection - the more difficult the alignment. Works best when you have become all greasy and have busted, at least, a couple knuckles. Remember how easy it was to unload that pto driven implement at its current spot - you are now paying the price, trying to get the @#&# pto connected.

The times when the pto connection is easy - I wonder, did I really get it connected right???

Mine is always clean, well greased & de-burred. Its making the second(final) connection that presents the problems. First its turning either the pto stub or the pto shaft to obtain engagement - then its the weight of the shaft itself and holding it up to obtain alignment - then while you are attempting all this, you have to either push in the spring loaded pin in or slide the outer shield back and push the entire ensamble over the pto stub.

Speaking solely for myself - if this operation goes as it should - ITS STILL NOT AN EASY OPERATION.

I just don't understand why you guys have so many problems hooking up PTO shafts...

IF you take the time to get and KEEP everything clean and working smoothly, it's really a pretty easy job that goes quickly...

I can't imagine taking 30 minutes to put on or take off a PTO shaft. This should not take more than 30 seconds. If it does, you have something severely wrong with the fit up of your PTO yokes and the PTO shaft on the tractor. Burrs on either? no lube? Don't understand how to operate the type of coupler you have? One thing that can make it a little more comfortable is to have a bungee cord support the weight of the PTO shaft itself, so as you are bent over you don't have to hold the weight of the PTO shaft. Guys this is not rocket science, it takes "SECONDS" not minutes to do this. Take the yoke and tube off of the implement and find out why it doesn't fit, and make it so that it does. It might be a few licks with a small file will solve all of your problems.
