Secret to hooking up PTO shaft

/ Secret to hooking up PTO shaft #61
I carefully cleaned up my tractor pto shaft and now keep one of those plastic cover cylinders on my pto shaft at all times if a pto device is not attached. Their cheap. I also am way more careful to keep dirt and grass out of the attachment side of the hook up. Very light coat of grease. Also wipe down the pto shaft cover before i unhook so dirt does not build up between the the cover tubes and make it hard to telescope in and out. Still not super easy but way easier than it used to be.

To keep my PTO shaft that is stored outside up off the grass and dirt I use an old seat belt I bolted together to make the correct length. Easy on - easy off. I tried a bag over the end but that promoted rust, now I just keep it coated.
When I grease the tractor and also grease the stub shaft. I don't have hookup problems.

I "told" on her around the hot dog campfire last night and she revealed that a big part of why she was so successful was that she used another trick we both learned right here on TBN - use a bungee to help suspend the heavy end of the pto shaft when aligning/twisting/pushing/pulling. It really helps to minimize ALSO having to lift/hold.

Well....... I guess myself & Old Red & anybody else need to have some of you "30 second miracles" make a video showing all your tricks and short cuts.

That or provide a link that demonstrates the same.

I only have one pto driven implement - Wallenstein chipper. When I bought it the salesman said - " pto connection is a snap ". I've invited him out for a demo on the chipper and pto connection. Get him all bent up like a pretzel and see if he can "snap".

No - if I would do as many have done and use a bungee to support the weight - it would be a lot easier. Its just a lot more fun to *****!!!

How much money will you put in my Pay Pal account if I go to the trouble of making a you-tube video of me hooking up AND unhooking the PTO shaft coupler of my rotary cutter. I guarantee I can do both operations in less than 30 seconds total. Is it any fun to bend over in a tight space especially with my nice fat gut? NO, but it sure doesn't take long to do, as long as your PTO stub and coupler are burr free and well greased. As said by others a bungee to support the weight, especially of the larger, longer shafts can be a helpful thing.

Well, James, I gotta say I learned something. Sh#t spreaders are easy to hook up and get a cute blonde to do your pto connections. Hope there wasn't more to learn - that's my quota for the day. Thanks for the link. And your free link kinda fits in with my current economic status.

Wish I could turn the PTO shaft on my Brown 472 cutter that easy. Big difference in PTO shaft resistances. My Woods finish mower has the PTO coupler that you pull to engage. Easy- peazy. The Brown running gear is a lot heavier and more difficult to turn. Biggest issues with most on here is reduced capacity and strength due to age, infirmities, and arthritis. You young bucks will know it when you get arthritis.

Big ROGER on that Turbys. Things would be a lot easier making pto connections if I were still 35 or so.......... The facts are - I'm 75, have arthritis in both hands and my back will only take the strain for so long. However, it will be a cold day in H#LL when I acknowledge any of these infirmities.

I still prefer the link that James showed and the idea of a blonde doing my pto connects.
