Self driving cars will get their drivers killed

Side-note but somewhat related, something I heard on the radio a little back while driving...

The idea has been "floating around" that with car's GPS systems, they can tie the governor and then perhaps control the speed of the car. The line of reasoning is this way, people wouldn't be able to drive faster than the posted speed limit on the road they are driving on.

Most likely wouldn't happen in my lifetime (and may never happen), but it's actually kind of scary what technology will let you do.

I don't believe the below idea has really taken off LOL

Even though it says "unavailable" the page will load. That sounds like a solution looking for a problem. I've worn my seatbelt religously since 1981 when I was at a junkyard and saw the damage that a shoulder can do to the door of a 70's vintage F100. Yet there are times when it's a hazard; such as when you lean forward to look down the road before pulling out and the darned thing snags.

1 - I don't believe that line of reasoning would hold up

2 - If a driver uses AI to "drive" the car, at the end of the day, isn't it still the responsibility of the driver to control their vehicle anyway? Kind of like suing a car manufacturer for making a car that drives too fast and you got busted for speeding IMO.
I would hope that all states still consider the driver to be the responsible party, even if the vehicle contains technology that can take over some driving function.

In the video of the Tesla crashing into the motorcycle I would find that huge monitor in the middle of the dash VERY distracting while I drove!
Most of the time, those who think they are driving legally are just breaking a different law.

Pretty rare for poky drivers to be ticketed, though they probably are the catalyst for more accidents than the hot doggers, if for no reason than drivers stuck behind them will likely take chances trying to get past them.
Left lane hogs on interstates are just as bad...a couple years ago we took a trip down I-81, and got behind them constantly. For whatever reason, they seemed to be more common in Virginia than in other states.

yup.says it all
"Fraud" may be a bit of a stretch, but to market it as "full self driving" is certainly deceptive when it doesn't even come close.

Good video here

Tesla shuts off the "autopilot" system 1/10 of a second before a crash so the lawyers can blame the "driver" behind the wheel.
Wow! 😲

I once followed someone in town about three blocks that was going very slow, as in less than 15 mph and maybe less than 10. I was going to pull in behind them and offer help because I thought they were broke down. Traffic was stacking up and I finally passed. They didn’t like it because they caught up to me and called the police. I got pulled over about 10 minutes later and I told the officer in a nice way they were full of it, he let me go. That one ticked me off. It was like they were almost taunting or daring someone to pass them.

I don't like those big screens at night, especially when trying to back up; there is too much glare off the back window.

I once got behind two trucks from a grocery vendor, travelling side by side at 45 mph down the interstate. The speed limit was 75. I followed them for at least 6 miles while traffic stacked up behind them; and watched one pickup pass them in the breakdown lane.
We finally came to a 1 lane bridge construction site so they had to split up; then a line of cars went around them before they could block us again.

I wrote a letter of complaint to the company, giving them the time, location, and truck numbers. They wrote back and said they would look into it but I doubt anything came out of it. I could have pulled over and called the non-emergency SP number, but had a long drive ahead of me.

Some companies take these things quite seriously. My BIL used to drive for Walmart, and they were one such company. Maybe now with the shortage of drivers these rules are relaxed somewhat, he retired about 10 years ago.
I’m guessing you always take the stairs and avoid buildings over 3 stories?
Quite a difference between an elevator and a car on the open road.
