I've done some testing on a few of my vehicles. One was a 12' 3.6 engine in a SRX. They are known for timing chains wearing. My testing showed mine to be not wearing the guides or excessive chain wear. All good. Another was a virgin oil test of a barrel of oil I had purchased at auction. Baseline testing of it showed it to be a good useable oil. I still have some of that left for use in older engines around here. I did use it in my Ford 1900 diesel as well without issue and tested it after use without issue. I'm also testing my 17' Ridgeline 6 speed transmission also as I'm using Amsoil fluid in there to give me a better base stock (Group 4) oil as those transmissions are known for failures. (that's my testing thread on the Ridgeline forum) My testing is showing good results and a dump and fill keeps the Viscosity up doing so.
There's reasons to use testing. Especially if plan on keeping things with engines for long terms like 10 years or 20 years for tractors. It just ensures that the inside part that you can't see is still in good working condition. That's the real purpose of oil testing.
