Looks like I am needing to replace the clutch. Do I need to drain the hydraulic fluid before splitting it. It seems to be a generic note when working on the tractor. My fluid is still clear and I hate to waste it. Any ideas? Thanks

Then drain it into a clean container and reuse it.

Hoping I could eliminate all that mess and having to strain it a couple times. But yea.

If clutch is a dry clutch in bell housing between engine and HST tranny housing you may not have to drain it. You would most likely have to remove a couple of hydraulic lines that may want to drain it though. If these can be removed and ports plugged again you may have a chance.

Working on tractors is always messy. The only way around it is to have someone else do the work. 🤣

If you don't already have the service manual for that tractor, it's worth the investment. I got a digital download of the manual for my tractor, and it has been a big help (especially when we had to split the tractor to replace a cracked clutch housing.)

Well, after many, many hours of studying the Service Manual, studying the Parts Manual, I went back to the basics. Found out the clutch linkage was too tight like riding the clutch. After adjusting that, Praise the Lord, I don’t have to split it. It’s running good. I do feel sort of stupid not going back to common sense mechanics. But it works.
