Shallow well pump performance?

Just a bump vs starting a new thread ... I now have a camera and spare laptop configured and assigned to the task of seeing what's 25' below static level, is 'dry', and how/whether its feeding my pump from that far down.

I'm trying to figure out why you want to look down a dry hole.

Well, mostly because there's a P-A or drill bit at the bottom, and because it's dry at that depth. I could reach water by digging <5' deep alongside of it. There's a reason it's there, and all I can do is poke around from the surface until Spring or so.

This was a gravel pit 35 yrs ago when the house was built, so no shortage of heavy equipment on site to dig/backfill. There's been a lot of grading done where the lower yard/beach matches floor level downstairs and steep slopes at that end of the house transitioning to the higher level of the 'upper' yard, house, and driveway.

Exploratory digging in the Spring would be with water level (pond/ground/static) typically 4' or so higher than its current seasonal level. btw in my highest-water year (2001) the pit was barely awash, and for almost a week I beached the canoe on the lawn.

My supply comes up thru' the floor with no hint of where its S-W point is located, other than the confusing configuration of what's visible between it and the pond (the pipe & pit). Snow and wind have subsided, so I'm anxious to get a look. If there is a P-A in the pipe, I have a config concept to sketch that 'almost makes sense' of tying things together as I imagine they are.

Y'know, drilling/digging a new shallow well and getting water to it for a sub doesn't sound that difficult. (compared to digging septic lines? meh) 'New' shallow wells (for residential supply) are no longer allowed by county code. I'd play it as fixing one grandfathered-in if anyone asked.

If anyone sees this as just weird, confusing BS, .... well I do so far. ... :laughing:

I didn't know about the drill bit. What kind is it?
It would be my opinion that if there is a bit in the well, that would indicate someone was still drilling when it broke off. This would tell me that they aren't even near water yet.
