It sure is. Never have been able to justify the cost though. If I ever did, I would try and get it cheap, sometimes available. Most of the stuff you plant, dies anyway, as just quick cover, so it's a while before you get a real lawn.

My el cheapo source for sod is to cruise through the new subdivisions where new houses are popping up. When they landscape they sod the whole yard, then afterward they walk around and cut out the areas where they want hedges or islands, etc. The off cuts get piled off to the side to be disposed of, and they don't try to re-use it. Laying it ends up being like a jigsaw puzzle because most pieces are cut up into curves or pieces for the shape they want the hedge to take, and you don't get enough to do a whole yard productively in a weekend. If you aren't in a hurry though, or just want to fix up an area that got beat up during renos, etc, it is free sod. Also where the city has just done road work, when they are finished they will re-sod the medians or the area between the curb and the sidewalk. There is usually a pile of off-cuts waiting around to be loaded into a truck to be shipped away to organics disposal.

Ladders -

I learned a lesson, one that could have turned out badly, about tie-ing down properly.

I packed an 8 foot step ladder in the back of my truck along the side, wedged in amongst other stuff and below the lip of the bed.
That's secure, right?

Well, not so much. tooling down a busy divided hwy about 60, I looked back in time to see the ladder lift out, up in the air, and down to the hwy.
Fortunately, no cars close behind me, and, the ladder skidded along the road onto the right side shoulder. God loves fools and babies.

People at Lowes probably wonder why I seem to go to great lengths to tie down everything now.

Same thing here but on a rural load. I slowed down a lot after it lifted out of the truck and it almost passed me.

Similar. I had a family heirloom, a child's highchair, in fact one I had used 60 years previous, that I was taking to my sister after birth of her grandchild. I thought it was wedged in securely in a load of furniture (that was otherwise all tied down) in my little HF 48" x 40" utility trailer. In my mirror I saw it lift and fly away. Late night, almost no traffic. I took the next offramp, circled back, never found it.

Since then I've always used a 'tarp' of commercial heavy duty fishnet over any trailer load.

Car behind you stopped & picked up that "Valuable Antique" .

Lost my wife desk one time. We just got married and were moving all her stuff to the new house. I loaded most of the furniture and strapped it in all except for the desk. My nephew and wife strapped it down. Made it about 200 miles and in a fairly tight curve on the highway I saw it in my mirror lift off and go into the center concrete divider and basically explode into splinters. VERY lucky for me it didn't hit anyone or cause an accident as the road was busy and there is on room to pull off. I got off the next exit and double checked everything else and it was all tight and secure. Even checked it part way down the road so no idea if a strap broke or what happened. Honestly I was just glad I dint load that ONE item no strap it down.... Dodged a bullet in many ways on that one...

I lost my kitchen table out of the back of my '85 Ford Ranger. I was only moving a short distance so didn't bother to tie it down, but when a bear ran across the road in front of me I slammed on the brakes and swerved. After stopping I looked in my mirror and there was the table on the center line, resting on all 4 legs just as if I had planned it. Things were a little loose so I tightened them up and used it for a few more years.

Years ago I had a long commute that started out with about 20 miles of winding, twisting roads. After going through one small town, there was a stretch of straight level road for another 6 miles.

Early one morning I left home and as usual, took my sweet time cruising through the curvy section, but as soon as I hit that straight stretch, I goosed the truck up to 60 mph. I raised my head up some to sip from my coffee cup when I looked in the rear view mirror and saw a small kitten levitated in the air about half the height of the rear window!

I soon as I saw it, I hit the brakes and the last I saw of the kitten, it was swooping up and to the left. By the time I got the truck stopped, I couldn't find the poor thing anywhere, but he sure didn't look like a happy camper when I last saw him hanging in the air.

My college roommate and I were moving. So we packed everything possible onto the back of his father's plumbing truck. Oops-- he forgot to put on his mom's antique rocker as he had put it aside for safekeeping during the loading.

Scott climbed on top of the load, found a good "hole" to put the rocker in, and I handed it up to him. After he put it on top of the load I said "it's never going to stay on there while we are driving." He said: "yes it will."

At 45 mph down a 4 lane road, at night, we heard a noise. I looked in the passenger rear view mirror and saw the rocker, sitting upright, in the traffic lane. No traffic coming as it was all being held at a stoplight some distance away. Ahhhh! We must go back and get it.

Scott made a lumbering U-turn in the loaded plumbing truck. The light had changed and traffic was again flowing. That's when we saw one of the headlights of an oncoming car go out. Ooops.

Gives new meaning to "Rockin into the night"

That guy's lunch should be ready by the time he gets to the work site...I hope that's a diesel truck; pumping gas near that open flame might be too exciting.

I thought he was there to re fuel the fire ?
