She's DONE! - Power Rake Build

Does anyone have any idea how fast the drum turns? I'm guessing about 150 RPM.
I've never seen one of these before this summer. The contractors doing sewer and water lines in my area are using them to landscape after they're done digging. They seem to do a nice job. I'm thinking about making one for my small skid steer.

great build, gives me ideas for an old commercial sweeper I have that came off of an old commercial tractor, no PTO. My FIL has been looking at ways to build something to work driveways and what you have would do it. The tractor is his, didn't need the broom, but it's still in the back 40, can convert it and put it back on for him, got all the hydraulics, motor, just need to build the drum. Thanks for posting this, got my mind working.

Where'd you get the gearbox, Dave?

eBay!
I had been searching and searching for a nice GB...ended up finding this one for CHEAP money. Brand new industrial GB, good for 80 horse continuous load...

Because its a 2:1 GB, the RPM of the drum is 270 rpm.

BTW, Did you weld it up with that little Maxstar 150?? I should say BIG little Maxstar 150!

Sure did...thats a GREAT little welder...one of them deals where you cant let the size fool you! I love my Maxstar.

It's used as, just as the name implies a "power rake"

I have never used one, but have always wanted to try one on some dirt roads I help maintain in a private lakefront community I work for. The roads there are typically so hard packed that my rake doesn't always like to cut the surface.

Nice job on the rake. Is it built totaly from scratch or is it one you rebuilt ?

Looks like what we try to prevent here.
With our clay soil just driving the ATV and Tractor on it will yield 2-4" of DUST. Dare you walk on it in sandles or tennis shoes and your feet are covered in dust.
ALl our dirt roads MUST have rock  cost a lot.

THe rake looks awesome though! (The Green one and this one)

Yeah it took me a day to get the shaft aligned, internal disc & end caps welded to the shaft, and then that unit welded into the pipe...
Took me a complete 9.5 hours to weld on all the teeth...

Did you ever consider a stud welder? Might have saved you some time. Great build!

Awesome, now if I could borrow it for a day of two!

Great job Spudland,

I realize this is a pretty old thread, but if you still follow it I want you to know that your pictures and the details presented here gave me the rest of the info I needed to go ahead and start gathering parts for a small 48" wide rake to use on my stand-on skidsteer. I pretty much had it figured out, but your pictures convinced me. You did beautiful work on that thing. Thank you.
