I heat with wood through our long Northern Michigan winters and am always looking for ways to to make the chore of cutting wood easier. A few years ago decided that I wanted to try a buzz rig, and after looking around at plenty of beat-up antiques and researching the few commercially built units, I decided invest a little shop time and build my own. I had a 1.25:1 right angle gear box from an old spreader, and found the 26" carbide tipped industrial blade on e-bay. The guard was plasma cut by my steel supplier from a cad drawing that I provided. I think that I have about 20 hrs into the project. The blase turns at about 1000 RPM which seems to work fine. The Kubota B7100 has enough power to cut through any log that care to lift.

I like it!Lot better than some of the old ones you use to see with a totally exposed blade;scary.

Some rpm drop and then she speeds back up. Is that belt slippage ? More and better safety shields than typically seen on home built equipment .

Looks good to me!

One of mine is a home built too, they are a pretty straight forward project to build....

Mine is geared so you just run the tractor at fast idle, 540rpm would be too fast...

My home built doesn't have any belts in it to slip or wear out, if something get's jammed in it, rather than slip a belt it has a ratchet clutch that let's go... It works quite good.

The guards on mine are all on the side you stand on, so you are protected from most of the blade as you work...

Although it works pretty good, I think it's too much handling of the wood for me, so mine doesn't get used any more...
