Long time project in the making, kept me off these forums for a while! I put the tractor to work on this one! The wife wasn't around during most of the dirt work, so there aren't any pictures there. Me and the little man put some seat time in for sure though!

Shop with a bedroom, bathroom, laundry room, and kitchen that we'll live in for a while before building a house! And thanks!

This is what we did 12 years ago. After building new homes for 30 years we were stuck with the mental idea of what a "proper" house was and were waiting for better economic times to sell our farm that we moved from.
For just the 2 of us, we became comfortable with our little house on the end of a wonderful shop. Added a little 2 floor addition and we're good. God bless my wife is all I can say. We're on over 700 acres and fortunately we both enjoy being on our land.
A small semi attached "barn" is in the plans for a more comfortable place for our kids or company to stay in and a larger gathering space.

Enjoy your adventure. 🍻

These are beautiful but I always wonder about the doors on the sides vs ibn the ends. I call them summer time plans.
I like the comment about moving in and finding out that you like it well enough that a house of its own isnt such a big deal. I like living in my shop better. When I was really busy so much more convenient under 1 rof.

Looks great!!!! My home sort of started out this way. I built the shop, then added a living area behind it, then added a couple of bedrooms to above the living area, and then added on to the side of the living area for a big laundry room and another bathroom. I'm at 1,400 sq feet of living area so far and now I'm working on turning the 24x30 shop area into a great room and adding on to both sides of it for a 3 car garage on one side, and moving my kitchen to the other side. I'm amazed at how it keeps changing, and with every change, it gets better. When I'm done, there will be no sign of my shop. I'm also redoing all my siding in Hardie Lap Siding, so it looks more like a house.

Eventually, I want a shop building totally separate and away from my living area. It was fine for awhile, but over the years, it's become a storage area for my wife more then I like. It's also dusty and a challenge to keep clean so we don't track anything into the living area. She also walks in on me while I'm working to interrupt me more then I like. For me, I think it will be better that she has her building, and I have my building. Hers will be for grooming dogs and storing "her" stuff. Her area is already cleared and will happen before my shop is built, so that will motivate me to get it done sooner rather then later!!!

I knew what I was getting into. (and plow twice every snow😆) It's just my addiction to leanto's that I just can't overcome. I'm only 40 deep and that just didn't work for me. I've got over 3500 sf of leanto's on the back and left side.
