Wow.. what a waste of some nice wood....

Someone with a bandsaw mill would have loved that in 8 to 10 foot logs...

It does look beautifull when freshly cut. However, speaking as a wood miller myself, the stuff is worthless.

Eucalyptus was first introduced to the states (its from australia) as a source of lumber, it is very dense, and rot resistant. however, many people have gone broke experimenting with growing and trying to process eucalyptus for the lumber industry.

It even failed as railroad tie material due to twisting, warping and splitting charateristics.
There are huge abandoned stands of Eucaltptus plantations in central california and Hawaii remaining as a testament to its lack of value as lumber

It has since taken over along the west coast, depleating groundwater, invading native habitat and a real menace during wildfire season.

It makes good firewood!

Forgot how much fun this thing is, splitting across the grain 30" dia log!

Here's mine, just finished.
One of the hoses I have is a bit too short so haven't been able to try it out.

How long do you think that wedge skid will last? It looks short on beef,

I know what you mean now.
I tried it tonight and the pieces on the backside of the wedge guide bent a bit. I split some pieces that have been sitting for a while and had some big knots in them.
I'll need to get some heavier material but should be easy to fix.
The wedge itself worked well, just need to beef up the guide part.
