This is Bitsy, the cat that comes to get me on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, when she thinks "we" need a nap. We usually go downstairs in the family room where it's cool and quiet for said nap. She was dumped out of a car window at about 4 weeks of age when we lived in town. She was named Bitsy because she was so small, we lost her in a fold of the blanket of the bed. Just a little bitty thing she was.
This cat very seldom ever drinks like a normal cat (see attached). She likes to dip her paw in the dogs water and then lick her paws. We used to think it was because of the ice cubes we give them (for some reason when they hear the ice maker....they come running) but she does it with plain water as well. Sorry to run on and on but with Pete losing Miles over in the "rural living" forum, I just had to. I've lost 2 to feline leukemia and always relied on the vet to 'take care of them'. I will never leave a vets office again without my precious pet in my arms.

But she's a one man cat. No one but me can get close to her. She'll take your hand off...........or at least she would if she had front claws.

One of my male cats (someone dumped him off at the Barn on the Base I was stationed at) always puts his paw in the water before he drinks. I think he might be a little hard of seeing and uses it to judge the distance. Sometimes we find a paw print in the bottom of the bowl. Can always tell when he drank from the bowl, you can see the one wet paw trail away from the bowl.

Same here - Rozencrantz (but not his brother Guildenstern) likes to paw the water first. Maybe he wants dirt flavored water. They are not Shakesperean in nature despite thier names - Rosie and Gill just think that everything they see is thiers. He won't dip his paw into milk though.

This is Spooky. He is a fine old curmudgeon that I adopted from a co-worker. She got him from a shelter but was moving and couldn't take him with her. He is nuts about water. He will climb up on the side of the bathtub and drink water by dipping his paws in it. He has (almost) trained us to put the toilet seat down because he likes to splash in it - I don't like to get woken up by my wife's screams [shock] in the middle of the night. When we first got him, he fell in the bathtub with me a couple of times - it didn't seem to bother him. I sure am glad he is de-clawed though...

Jerry, Great picture. Cats never cease to amaze me. One of our cats Johnny will sit on the side of one of our horse tanks watching the goldfish for hours. We feed the goldfish a couple of times a day, they come right up to you with their mouths open gulping for the food. The thing that amazes me is that they come right up to Johnny and he doesn't attempt to catch one. It's like he just enjoys watching them. Go figger.
