Hi folks,

I pulled my starter motor some time back and forgot to take a picture of the wiring. I have a shop manual but it does not say which post on the solenoid the copper braided strap goes on, and which post the positive wiring connects to. Based on the picture below, is it the left or the right post that the copper braided strap goes on ?.

I really doubt it matters, as the solenoid connects both posts internally when activated. But i usually see it the way you show there. With the battery cable on the right.

I think if you placed the braded on the other side it might touch the other post also, unless you could rotate the braded cable

I'd check the integrity of the insulate bushing going into the starter as well, doesn't look all that good. It shorts to the starter case it'd be a dead short to ground....not a good thing.
Here's a pic of the internals of a solenoid. As you can see it makes no matter which one goes where:
