singing shower head

I have a water saver shower head in our shower - it sings as the water pressure goes up and down - it is a high pitched sound - we have a country well system with a submergable pump any help would be appreciated.

Some of the old shower heads had a limiter, i.e., a washer with a small hole in it that fit in the female portion of the shower head where it screws onto the shower outlet. If so, just remove this washer. Otherwise, get a new shower head.

Our shower heads do this also. I think this is pretty much normal with a submersible well pump. The only time they don't sing is when:

Wife doesn't flush the toilet.
Washer isn't running.
Dishwasher isn't running.
Wife isn't taking a shower at the same time.
Automatic horse waterer isn't filling up.
Water softener/ water treatment system isn't back flushing.

If it's in a tub, try pulling the knob on the diverter valve that swaps water from the spigot to the shower head a little more firmly.

Where we used to live a flushed toilet would get the person in the shower scalded. Singing shower heads were a welcome change.

Might check the faucet tip. A loose tip will make some strange sounds. The hot is the most likely, the heat makes the rubber get softer.

thanks guys - I have already changed the shower head 2 times. I will keep looking & listening & listening. Also I 'm going to change out the pressure tank - I think the bladder is broken. if I find the cure, I will let you know

Well 3 years have passed & I still have a singing shower head - what is different since 3 years ago - unrelated updates to water system were a new well pump & a new pressure tank, system still sings - what I do notice when singing occurs is that if I push down on the faucet diverter handle is that the noise will lessen or go away, water pressure has an effect on the singing noise volume. I know this is a crazy thing to write about but the singing annoys me and I like to think I can fix anything. lol

Change the spout or diverter handle assembly. Any water come out of the spout while the shower is on?

One at my Mom's sings but it's the guest room bath so ... I think it is the diverter assembly too. The hotter the water the louder it sings.

I had this exact problem with one shower in our house. Didn't find the cause until the valve finally started to leak and drip just a bit. I removed the valve cartridge to replace the o-rings and found a tiny (about 1/8" dia) flake of solder that evidently came loose from inside the pipes somewhere and lodged at the cartridge. The flake would vibrate or cause the water stream to vibrate just right so that it would sing.

I recently replaced my submersible pump with a new variable speed pump. The old pressure tank was replaced with a small, 1 gallon size. Every time water is being used the pressure sensor keeps the pump running fast enough to keep the pressure constant. Prior to this, my shower head would sing when the pressure in the tank dropped near 40psi, and would temporarily stop when the pump pressure rose to 60psi, then resume singing on the way back down to 40psi.

Aching Back & dave 1949 Yea that basically how my shower acts also with the pressure rise and fall I will replace my faucet.

been tempted so many times to get away from the bathtub spout "pull up plunger" and go with a couple more handles on the wall.

1 hot, 1 cold, 1 bath tub spout, 1 shower head, (2nd shower head on a house for cleaning dogs). in the mix in the wall, a hot/cold anti scold mixer.
