Single acting cylinder to JD 4520

Using just one connection does work, as kennyd says it will.
I use one line to my single acting cyl. on my snow plow lift.
Use the FEL loader 'lift' outlet. Nothing attached to the other coupling.

The bucket curl outlets are plumbed to the two single acting cylinders that angle the snow plow.

Not harsh at all unless you hold the stick after the cyl. has retracted.
And you can just push it into float.

Thanks for the words of caution on operating. Don't know much about hydrolic plumbing, but I learned the physics of top-heavy equipment 50 years ago.

I guess I'm a little confused about how the joystick valve operates a SA cylinder with one line. If the joystick valve is opened to push fluid into the cylinder, the SA cylinder extends (to unload the mixer drum).

Then, if you let the joystick return to the neutral position, will the SA cylinder stay in the extended position? (Is there a check valve to hold the fluid in the SA cylinder?)

And do you move the joystick back past neutral to release the pressure and allow the SA cylinder to contract back to the closed position? (If so, how does the fluid get back into the reservoir? Will the other line still hooked up to the FEL then have pressure on the bucket curl cylinder?) EDIT: From re-reading the above posts, I gather both lines should be disconnected from the bucket curl cylinders so that the unused line can go into "relief" when the joystick is moved back past neutral.

Thanks again for your patience.

Hmmm, if I want to add a Top-N-Tilt to the BB (assuming BB = box blade), now would be the time to do it and let the top cylinder do double duty and be used for the mixer also. Less money and more versatility in the long run.

Is that logical?

That's what I was thinking would happen,,,,seams kinda harsh,,,,ideally would one run the 'other' to the tank ?

That is it's job, not harsh at all unless you hold it there for extended periods. Running the other port to the tank can be done, but not necessary at all.

Correct.

No check valve, but the port is "blocked" when the valve is neutral so no fluid can escape the cylinder, just like your loader stay's up after you raise it...

And do you move the joystick back past neutral to release the pressure and allow the SA cylinder to contract back to the closed position? (If so, how does the fluid get back into the reservoir? Will the other line still hooked up to the FEL then have pressure on the bucket curl cylinder?) The other port should not be connected to anything. Fluid will try to go out that port when you lower the SA cylinder, but obviously will be blocked so the system will go into "relief", just like if you curl the bucket till it stops but keep holding the joystick.

This is not the ideal way (that would be adding a DA cylinder to the mixer) to do it, but it is functional and commonly accepted.

Clear as mud?:D

You are correct...see inserts in the quote.
Give it a try.
You cannot hurt anything. Might hear some relief valve singing, but you know that is only temporary while holding the joy stick too long.

The JD kit for 3rd SCV (LVB 25513) is $264 list. About what I expected.

Dealer service department is vague about cost of installation, by the hour it "could be as much as $800". Later they backed off to say they would put a ceiling on the installation cost.

I realize there is a fair amount of work involved, so my question is: does the range of $400 to $800 sound reasonable? I know the Green paint is expensive, but are the Green uniforms that expensive also?
