I've only rented skid steers for different jobs that I was doing. Every time it's been a Bobcat. They seem well built and every rental yard seems to have them. I can only guess why they are so popular with the different rental companies.

If I was buying, I'd start with Kubota because everyone who has one, seems to really like them more then any other brand they've had. A friend just bout a Deere and says it's the best he's ever had, and he has a long history of renting different brands before he decided to buy one.

Local guy had a Cat 299d I think it was he used for forestry mulching. Had a flare up and thought he had it put out with his fire extinguisher, but it flared back up and burned up his unit plus the $30K mulching head. I don't recall him knowing what caused the fire.

Hopefully, Kubota ins. will take care of this without any issues.

Sorry. You're right.

I had been considering buying a compact track loader and cutter, but when that guy told me about his Cat and mulching head burning up, it really put the brakes on my interest. I ended up hiring the work out to a company that owned a CTL with a forestry mulcher. They said they had to remove the belly pan to clean the debris out two or three times a year. Just looking at the outside of the machine at the end of the day, debris was lodged in a lot of places on the outside. No idea what was inside the machine. I forget how much they said it cost them to replace the tracks and teeth on the mulching head. I was just glad to pay them to do the work and get on with life.

I have a 19 yr old Bobcat 773. Owned it for about 7 yrs. It's not rusty but a bit worn and works great. Has a turbo 4 cylinder Kubota diesel engine that makes 50 + hp. It does everything my tractor can't.
I ran the same model machine for years at work before I got a chance to acquire this one. No regrets with the purchase.

I think im goin to demo a bobcat , deere , case see what works best

We rented a Cat 259 for 2 days. My guys did not like it compared to our Kubota. It seemed to be a bit underpowered.
