Buying Advice Small Barn for Tractor

/ Small Barn for Tractor #21
What is the cheapest and fastest way to create a barn just for tractor and tools? Would gravel floor be fine? I can put a foot-deep gravel.

A pre-fab metal building would be a good option I think, but then again so isn't a stick built building or pole barn. The problem I find with the pre-fabs is if you are looking for budget friendly, they are usually long but narrow. When you increase the width I find the pricing to increase dramatically as it requires heavier cross beams to support the weight. Also, you'll need to figure in snow load which is sometimes a local requirement (regardless if it's pitched or metal roofing). I guess it depends on budget like everything else, but I will say like everyone else, width is just as important as depth.

As far as the floor, if you can afford concrete, go with the concrete especially here in the north. Hands down you will thank yourself. Not only is it the ultimate moister barrier, it will also enable you to sweep it, control oil spills/leaks, use a floor jack, roll around on a creeper, etc. I have heard of some people putting up the structure, then having the inside hot topped with pavement. My biggest issue with this is the smell, ventilation, and the pavement being soft. Although, I have only seen this done on fabric type enclosures. It is much cheaper than concrete and will provide a decent moister barrier, however not anywhere near as good as concrete. Hope this helps.

Thank you for sharing photos. I am looking for a wood barn and yes, at least 20x30. So, I guess it would cost me at least 15,000?

So, what is the range of your budget for this building? Are you planning on staying on this property for a long time?

Thank you very much gdk.

The building has to be wood and modular is the cheapest option I have.

I have no range for the budget and I plan to stay in this property for many years.

With that, I just heard you say Morton Buildings. You won't be disappointed.

My solution was a 20' shipping container for my 29hp Kubota w/ loader and mower. Secure, dry, bulletproof. Make sure you put down a plastic vapor barrier. If you need more width, bolt/weld a couple together and cut out the walls w/ a "hot wrench". If you need a door at the front end, or a window or two, cut 'em out. If you need a wider door, making a pair shouldn't be too tough (slider or hinged). You should be able to pick up a good one for less than $2K.

I had a small 12'x22' pole barn with 10'x10' door and 12' high walls built recently for my mini ex. I have more than enough room in my garage/shop for both the tractor and mini ex and attachments but it only has a 8' high door so the mini ex wouldn't fit.

Nothing Better!!! plus the tractor will still look showroom new whet it's time to sell. The sun and elements does a lot of damage to equipment. You can also move the " barn" if you sell the property .

Shop pic 1.jpgShop pic 2.jpgThere is no question you can save several thousand by building yourself. I built a 30x40x12 with 2 10x10 roll up doors and one 8x10 roll up door on a 4" slab for 10k. The cheapest kit for the same size with slab was around 17.5k and that was only with one 10x10 roll up door.

You are VERY fortunate (and have a nice barn). For that cost / size where I live, I could do the floor and one door!
