Smashed GN trailer into back of my 5058M :(

It is a helpful reminder to all of us who have not thought some things through before doing them. I had a large tent trailer chase me down a driveway incline when I failed to chock it after disconnecting. It stopped when the tongue lift contacted the opposite curb. If the neighbors witnessed the event, they were kind enough not to mention it.

Thanks for sharing an event which will help keep all of us a little more vigilant.

IIRC my 6415 does have a connector in the harness for the power plug you posted. It's a metripak (may not be spelled right) Bet an engineer saved $2 a tractor eliminating this connector.

Glad only the tractor was hurt. A local guy had a simillar trailer mover on a skid steer. The trailer got away from him like yours did and came in to the cab with him. His wife found him when he didn't come in for lunch. He lived but was over a year recovering.

Zebra, you're right. When taking a second look, I did see where all 3 wires terminated at the "metripak".

Dan D, yes I was very lucky and will change my way of handing my trailer going forward for sure!

At this point I got the cab pretty much stripped down as much as I can while still leaving the tractor in a condition where I can drive it onto the trailer for transport to the dealer.

Here's the right fender:

I stopped by the dealer yesterday and picked up the rear glass pane and new weatherstrip:

On the weatherstrip, looks like I'll have to wrap in on (figured I'll start at top center), and then trim it to size. The original was once piece. I guess I'll need to get some adhesive and glue the 2 ends together? Any advice on what adhesive to use and how to make a nice clean cut? The weatherstrip has a metal band in it.

On the adhesive, I would use Permatex 81730 (Flowable Silicone Windshield and Glass Sealer) or 81158 (Black Silicone Adhesive Sealant).
To cut, I would put the "waste" end of the gasket into a vice and cut it with a hacksaw or angle grinder.

I would think a pair of those razor-blade rubber hose cutter-pliers would also make a nice clean cut. I've had a pair for years and if they can cut thick rubber hose I would imagine they would make quick work of rubber weather seal. I seem to recall I got mine at Sears (Craftsman). They were very inexpensive.

The problem with razor blade cutters is the metal in the weatherstripping. Otherwise, I would agree.

Thanks for the links to sealants/adhesives. I like the black sealant one.

I try a hacksaw to ensure a straight cut across the entire piece. I'll cut is slightly long so that I can clean up the rough edge.

Would a small PVC pipe cutting tool work? Cuts PVC straight across and that is some hard stuff. Should handle the metal in the gasket.

Oops... was not aware of the metal. Never mind. :banghead:
