This chain is really frustration me! It came off about 5 times so far.you can see by the pics these are the only ends I have. The other side is tied with wire and it has not come off in a year.

Use rubber bungee cords to snug the chains nice and tight (on the inside too). That's what I do.

Looks to me like you have them hooked up wrong.
Hook goes through free end and back to link on hook end.
As you pull it around to hook, it tightens up everything.

I'll try to find a set with that hook & post a picture.

I run chains on 3 different tractors and never thrown chains. I never bungee the inside of the wheel and Zip tie the connections. My theory is I want the bungees to want to draw the slack from the inside to the outside. If using the correct chains you should have more then enough sidewall from the tire to hold the chains in place. Eventually the chains will settle in the lugs and very little shifting.

I have to go back out there so I'll try again.

As has been mentioned it doesn't look to be hooked correctly.
Also normally what appears to be on the outside of the tire which is just hooked,
is usually on the inside and the "cam" over fastener is on the outside of the tire.
You connection points need to be the same length over all.
Where you have two links for your hook, you should have two links for the cam over tightener.
If the side chains are not even lengths your chains will have a tendency to try and walk off.
A bungee or two one the outside can help and shouldn't hurt.
I don't use any on my chains.

I don't have cams on these chains. I just have a hook one one side and a long hook on the other side that's about 6" or so. I have nothing to lock em on the tire I guess that's why they were free.

The long hook should pass through a link on the side chain and be levered back to close and hook on a chain link.
The long arm is fastened to one end of the chain and would hook through and roll, cam, or lever back to the same end if the chain it is attached to.

Are you anywheres close for assistance.

The long hook is the cam. Fold the long hook back to its self and there is supposed to be a link just hanging there on the side chain . Your hook goes through the chain link and the link hanging there just slides down and catches hook.

That is a horrible description and IF I have that style won’t be able to get pictures until Tuesday. Hope it helps some.

this guy has non-cam chains with a hook instead kind of like you do. Go to about 7:30 in the video to see how he latched the hook. It may be that your chains are too small for your tires (so maybe add a few links)

I use bungee cords outside also inside yet to have issue.

When the chain flip over and broke the wire it took out my chain tighter that was holding them on the outside.

OK, you are likely getting frustrated and PO'ed at your chains, back up and relax for a few minutes.
I'me going to post 4 pics of two different tire chain fasteners I believe 3 and 4 will be similar to what you have.

I believe pics 3 and 4 are similar to the style hook you have, the difference is yours is just round rod stock and mine are flat bar stock.
They will function the same.
Pass the end through a side link and "cam" "rotate" it back on it's self and hook it back in the side chain,
it can hook in the link or even push it past and then let it come back to rest on the top of the side chain link.

Your chains need to be installed and mounted squarely on the tire,
by that I mean the same number of side chain links on each side of the set of chain, inside and outside.
Normally the simple hook you show in your picture is to the inside of the tire,
that will give you more room to fasten and latch the long hook on the outside of the tire.
Usually chains are made square so just count the number of side links from the last cross chain to keep your ends equal.
Chains that are not installed square will walk off of the tires, usually to the short side.
Bungees are a bandaid they are not needed with chains the right width and installed squarely.
They usually do not hurt and many people use them I used to but haven't in several years.

added; you can PM me or call, I'll PM you my number

"Bungees are a bandaid they are not needed with chains the right width and installed squarely"

not necessarily - my chains are just a tad bit loose; bungees snug them up perfectly. If they help, no reason not to use them. No harm, at least. No issues for 20+ years using them......

That's what I was trying to do put the long end into a chain link and rotate it,but for some reason I can't turn it so tomorrow I will take the chains off and start from scratch! Because now I need em with the snow and drizzle today.

By the way I'm up in Northern Wisconsin.

This link should take you to a thread here on installing chains,
the method shown works very well and is the easiest way I have found to mount tire chains.
Mounting tire chains
good luck with them

Thank you LouNY for taking the time to help the OP. Your advice and guidance is spot on. Hopefully the "light" will come on to him soon. Thanks again!!!
