Geez, your cabin is very similar to mine. Mine is 14 x 24 with a 45 roof. My roof is metal and it doesn't shed the snow at all. I thought the snow would slide right off.

Do you find the cab a pain in the woods?

I have a cab on my DK45, too, and wouldn't say its a pain in the woods, exactly. However, it is a bit nerve-wracking to have the cab scraped and whacked by branches. On the plus side, those branches weren't scraping and whacking me! Last summer I managed to bend the bracket for the slow-moving vehicle triangle down over the fender (nearly 90 degrees) and snap off the radio antenna on the cab...otherwise, it survived a summer in the woods pretty well.
At least with the cab model I'm never tempted to fold down the ROPS in tight quarters.

Wade,

rd and I are neck and neck... I broke of the antenna last year. I drill out the little metal piece and expoxied a 12" piece of coated copper wire in place. It bends and flexes and works great. I am constantly adjusting the side mirrors and a few scratches have been added.
I plan my routes or cut one when I am in the woods.

Cabin is 12'x18' with loft plus a 8'x18' deck/sun room. I think the roof is a bit more than 45ー
It is partially insulated and we need to finish the insulation in the spring plus put up wall board and paint etc.

I have a sleeping loft in mine as well. I have my deck on the short side with the roof overhanging to give shade. I built it myself over the summer of 09. It was a great experience and I really love my place up there.

I take the mirrors off for the summer; they just get whacked everytime I wander into the woods or mow the pastures (where there are spruce trees).
I also pretzeled the FEL level indicator rod last summer; the woods definitely present more hazards than the fields do.

Where i work most of the trees are small and just bend and catch on everything including my face..friggin cherry trees are the worst. If I have a real problem I just qiuckly chop it down and add it to the pile.

How did you bend the indicator? I put a bunch of logs on the loader once that bent the indicator but just elastically.

I had the bucket curled so the indicator was projecting above the tube and a small dead spruce slid down along the FEL arm as I backed up. It happened pretty fast and bad words were said. I couldn't uncurl the bucket without doing some more damage, so had to head back to the house for a straightening job.
The SMV bracket was also bent while backing up when a front tire pushed down a sapling that caught the bracket and levered it down over the fender.

I'm not sure when I lost the antenna, but it was rotated down alongside the cab at the time, so I'm sure I just scraped it off with a small tree (or branch). Some of my trails obviously need a bit more width to them...of course, a lot of this damage comes while I'm working on making wider trails!

I agree with Westbrooklawn on the technique, and maybe now is a good time to widen the trail out so next time it snows you are more easily able to work.

Nice pics!

That's one of the things I really like about my tractor, the narrow tread. I can fit between or go around most of the big trees.

I've caught that indicator on branches and stuff but always saw it before anything happened. I'm not sure if I would miss it much as I rarely look at it when operating.

Wade,

Nice shots of the cabin build. I like the incorporation of the vertical logs. I am hoping this summer will be the time to finish everything and clean up and landscape the area a bit...
trim some trees/bushes and expose some of the old foundation and fence lines.

Also I hope to drop a line in the river and launch the canoe... for some reason never did get a chance last year!!!!
