Snow

Local TV station had lower then normal Temps listed on the weather map that's when I realized they were listing wind chill projections inciting more doom, gloom and panic.

Noticed the same phenomenon on my weather app. The banner was showing 4° temperatures for the night.

But if you look at the hourly forecast, it was showing a projected low of 20°
The DJ on the radio station I listen to on the way home is one of the worst I've heard when it comes to weather. "It's going to be bitter cold tonight, with temperatures in the teens." Well which is it; bitter cold or temps in the teens?
Last June was a wet month... there were only 3 days without measurable rain. Finally it cleared for a few days and with that much moisture it naturally got humid.
Within a day he was whining about the heat.

The weather predictions have been a little conservative here. I think they said - 35F for today. It's 39F @ 11AM and increasing by the hour. I will soon be seeing green grass once again.

View of my little lake. Taken 1/20/2024 off the front porch. About 4.0 inches of snow left - at that time. Today it's down to around 3.0 inches.

That's too bad. It's finally gotten cold enough so that what snow we have is staying. Today I realized that I hadn't put the mouse guards up on my fruit trees.
I'd been working and sweating so decided to take the truck, allowing me to have heat nearby. I ALMOST got stuck on the edge of the field where the snow drifts in.
This time of year it should have been impassable.

Well - the forecasters were right. We are getting snow right now. About an inch an hour.

However - a look at the upcoming weather. Friday - 36 Sat - 38 Mon - 41. And above freezing for the remainder of next week. It will all be gone, again, in another week.

Yup, here too.....about 1''/hour, was out and did a quick sweep with snowblower on driveway so emergency veh. and what not can get up if need be. After I'm off the clock at 5 it's all over again.

An inch an hour means nothing if we don't know how long it snowed

We had a light, dry snow here, since the air was dry and quite cold for Oklahoma. (near zero) About 1 1/2 inches in the Tulsa area last Sunday. Roads have been quite passible, even for Okies! Did not spot any cars in the ditches on my 16 mile drive to work. Today most of it is melting, tomorrow should be melting weather also.
We were in Tulsa for the Chili Bowl Wednesday through Saturday and left Sunday morning, we were going to go south to Texas but they were supposed to be just as cold as Minnesota so we went back home, glad we left a 6:00 am, motel heat couldn't even keep up Saturday overnight in Tulsa

24h........so we got exactly 2 feet over that period.

Motel rooms almost always feel cold to me.
We were there for the Chili Bowl for four nights and the first three nights the heat turned off and on overnight now and then if I was awake, I would hear it turn on or if I was going to the bathroom I would hear it turn on but Saturday night we got back from the race late so we didn’t sleep the best because it’s later than we normally go to bed and I never heard the heat shut off every time I would roll over in bed I could hear the heat running and the heat was at 74° and the room never got above 68°

Finally got down the drive today. First time out in a week. Concrete drive has quite an incline and I didn't want to slide across the street into the creek at the bottom. Neighbor brought some salt over yesterday afternoon. Sure was getting tired of looking at 4 walls.

When I was working away I generally had my dog, which meant that I often got stuck in smoking rooms... paying extra for the privilege. There is a motel down in Gorham NH where I often stayed, always in the same room. It was on the end of the building facing the highway and always smelled like stale beer for some reason.
The nastiest place I ever stayed was a Motel 6 in Bangor Me. The carpet was so dirty that I wouldn't even walk across the floor in my bare feet...

All that's remaining now - uber thin patches of snow. Last couple days the temps hang right around freezing. Lots of ice patches also. Makes walking around the yard quite exciting.

:eek:There's excitement and then there's excitement. I liked the challenge of navigating icy patches especially when I was a kid, but I'm under no illusions about the risks. I've seen too many folks in serious trouble after a misstep. Stay safe!

All the best,

Peter

The snow is all gone here now. We are getting rain every day.

But the temps - WoW!! Yesterday it was 52F in the PM. I'm just waiting for the hammer to drop and the winter snows to return.
