Snow Attachments Snowblowers vs PTO HP

Why do people want to put the biggest blower they possibly can on their tractor? I couldn't imagine having the blower stick out a foot on each side. Yes, with hst you can always slow down but on the same page you can always speed up with a smaller blower. 6' of heavy or drifted snow is a lot on the first pass when you have to take a full bite when pushing the HP limits

I agree. I have a Kubota 51" blower on my BX25, and is plenty big enough. Nor do I ever run out of PTO power.

How wide is your tractor footprint? Obviously that's a big factor in the size of the snowblower. In my case, I'm going to end up going with a Farm King 60". The next size down is a 50" which will be too small. If they made a 54" I'd be all over it.

What kind of speed are you seeing? 20" of snow is not going let a 37 hp tractor (pto) go very fast, fast being a relative term. I run a NH TL100A Deluxe, with 93 pto hp, with a Normand 92-280 Inverted blower. Max speed i am seeing, in 4" is a bit over 7mph, with out spilling any snow. 20" and I'm down to about 3mph. But I'm throwing so much snow, with such velocity, that i need to be careful where I'm throwing it. I usually see between 475 and 570 rpm on the pto.

4th gear is roughly 3MPH. Doesn't seem like much, but it is :). I usually run 2nd when its deep, or 3rd when it's not. 4th in the deep was pushing the HP limit of my tractor, for sure - hence the shower of sparks that it was belching out.

Most drives are 12', so with a 6' blower, you just have to go up and back and you're done. With a 5' blower, you have to make 3 passes, then drive all the way back, so it takes TWICE as long.

I ran the buhler 60 (same thing as the farm king) on my JD755(A little less PTO HP than yours) for years without any problems. Yes you can bog it down a bit if you move too fast into a deep drift but for the most part it worked well.

I'm with you. I went from 60" to 50" now to 47" front mount. Generally speaking most people likely spend 1/10 snow blowing compared to mowing. I went with widest mower. The blower I went with what functioned the best with my tractor.

I run a 72" Puma blower with my CK35 with no problems at all. As a lot of people have mentioned already, speed is key. Bought this blower on the side of the road for $1100 with hydraulic chute and deflector. Couldn't pass it up. :D

How hot was it? You stole that!

I won't argue on the widths of drives as I have no reference but my own that I clear 16-18' wide.

I will disagree on the time though. When you have to drive considerably slower because you are underpowered it offsets things. You need 20% more power to run a 6' over a 5'
