I think hydrogen fuel cells will be our future. I was against it but recently I became away of a local company that's trucking natural gas compressed at high pressures all around the state. Most people would never know what was in the semi trailer. It'd be real easy to create a filling station where the truck pulls up, unhooks the trailer, connects the trailer to the station, and leaves with the empty trailer. Unlike batteries it doesn't require a massive upgrade to the electrical grid as the hydrogen generation can be done close to the source of power and it's virtually limitless.

At first I didn't think it was worth it because of the amount of energy needed but I see that changing as transporting it is advancing. Also with the amount of natural gas being pumped out of the ground it's creating a plentiful source of hydrogen.

I'd have to drag a 300lb anchor behind my BMW 335d to simulate the performance of your Prius. Oh, yeah it's a diesel BMW, that gets 43mpg. HS

You already are and don't realize it:

2014 BMW 3 Series Diesel Fuel economy:32 cty/45 hwy
MSRP from $38,600

2014 Toyota Prius c Four Fuel Economy 53/46 mpg
MSRP: $25,582

Difference is $13,018

at $4.20 a gallon for diesel, you would have to burn 4000 gallons to even be at the starting point of someone who purchased a new Prius, and they would still be way ahead of you in savings due to the cost of fuel..

You already have an anchor behind you, but refuse to see it, SKIPPER!

I'm sure within your mind, you can justify it though.

Like comparing apples to oranges, right?

I'm not interested in cheap, I want quality, performance, handling, comfort, styling, cutting edge engineering, exclusivity, and economy. This car has it all..... If I wanted cheap fun I buy a Fiat Abarth. I'll never be interested in taking batteries for ride or being at the end of a electric cord. HS

Methane hydrate behaves more like dry ice. I had it in hand several times. Low ambinet temperature and in example leaky tube fitting can drop temperature of the tubing (due to JT cooling) low enough to fill with hydrate plugging it. We would throw the tubing in shower under hot water and it would take half an our or so to thaw and dissipate.

Renewable??? Fossil fuel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Fossil fuels are fuels formed by natural processes such as anaerobic decomposition of buried dead organisms. The age of the organisms and their resulting fossil fuels is typically millions of years, and sometimes exceeds 650 million years.[4] Renewable energy | Define Renewable energy at Dictionary.com renewable energy noun any naturally occurring, theoretically inexhaustible source of energy, as biomass, solar, wind, tidal, wave, and hydroelectric power, that is not derived from fossil or nuclear fuel. You shouldn't create your own definitions?? "largest profiteers"?? Did you read post that tells where the gas taxes are spent...infrastructure and other fuel related hidden costs. Not what I would call taking profits. It seems that some of the hidden costs of travel by vehicles should be paid by those who use it. Of course we could all share equally but some would give that a label. Loren At least we agree on the burning of food. If you'd quit throwing out these nasty and often unjustified jabs at government the thread might survive. It was not necessary. Loren
The natural processes that create oil are still underway today, they have not stopped, just like wind and sun light they continue. Natures production of oil shouldn't be looked at any different then any other natural process. Refineries are no different than and are equivalent to a solar panel or a wind generator. HS

What is the rate of natural oil production? Is it as fast as we are using it? Does this mean that we can go back to deplete wells in a few years and get more oil and gas?

fukushima, chernobyl, not worth the risk, not necessary to take the risk. HS

Chernobyl was a lousy graphite moderated reactor without a containment building. The design should never have been built.
The Japanese mess was case of a company saving money . The standby generators should have been in the expensive high ground on the west side of the reactors .
They also broke the rules and had the used fuel bays jammed full. If all the 10+ yr old fuel had been in dry storage, no problem. The 5-10yr old fuel should have been in an aux fuel bay.
The Japanese units due to high land prices jammed too much equipment into a too small footprint.
Liquid metal reactors can cleanly burn the used fuel that today is considered a liability. Gen I,II, ,III and even gen IV reactors to some degree need a re-design.

There are people that still believe that Earth was created 5000 or so years ago, is flat, it is a center of universe and the sun revolves around it. Oh I forgot they also believe that wrestling is real.
Those who believe that we have unlimited supply of oil are just kidding themselves. They need to explain one question. Why it is that oil companies have hard time to find new oil and are getting it places that are difficult and expensive to develop. I do a lot of jobs for Oil and Gas and have never heard of unlimited oil or gas supply. But I heard a lot of stories how expensive it is to find new oil and gas and exploit new finds.

Nobody said unlimited . Just 500+ years worth of fossil carbon fuel. No problem to breed algae to make oil in salt water ponds in the US south . Lots of nuclear to make liquid hydrocarbon fuel from CO2 and hydrogen .
These alarmists running around crying that we are running out of energy have no clue. Or they have an agenda. I remember dire warnings in the 1970's that there would be no oil left before 2000.
Coal can be liquified, Germans ran a strong war machine on coal diesel and coal gasoline.
