I've found that rust forms where the paint is worn off from use. If I use it more the rust wears off.
Places where the paint has been damaged I just hit with a matching spray bomb.

First know there is a difference between rust removers which, as the name implies, removes the rust, and rust converters that chemically alter the iron oxide molecule leaving a coating that can be pained over. I prefer the rust converters that you can find at tractor supply and home depot. The true rust converters turn the rust to a black color. The really good rust converters you can find at places that sell marine products.
