Called to order a toothbar the other day and found out that for a 54" toothbar Markham normally puts 5 teeth on it. That's like 1 every 14". Been a few too many years since my Caterpillar days, but that seems too far apart.

What is a typical spacing on the teeth? I'm thinking more like 8-9" would be better, knowing that there is a law of diminishing returns there. More is not always best in this case.

Suggestions?

My New Holland 72" toothbar has seven teeth, or one per foot. The more teeth you have, the less force each tooth will apply to the ground. I'm sure there is a tradeoff and an optimum spacing for each particular task, but I don't know what it is, and I wouldn't worry at all about a 14" spacing. But I'd say for a few more $$$ they would build you one with an extra tooth...

My 54" H&H toothbar has six teeth.

LA402 loader on a Kubota B2910...attached is a photo...six teeth seems like a good number, at least visually... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have the 60" bucket on my Kubota B2710. My toothbar has 7 teeth spaced 9.5" on center.

My 48" bucket has five (23 series) teeth, I should have listened to Henro and built it with 6, while it works well I should have gone with one more. The mango sized rocks I am digging out (packed in clay) have a tendancy to slide between the teeth. My next toothbar I build will have a smaller tooth and at least 6 teeth.

Call them back. They space them out at 9 or 9 1/2" don't remember which, but they'll tell you. And they will add or subtract to fit your desires for something like $25.00 per tooth. Don't think you'd be disappointed.

This is a 48" bar from Carver (actually W.R. Long). It has 6 teeth. I guess that extra tooth must make up for the price diff vs. Markham Welding...

My 60" bucket has 9 teeth - (Home made tooth bar)
got the teeth on e-bay, they sent a couple extra teeth by mistake - so I used them all.

Ordered the toothbar today from Markham. Person I spoke to the other day was wrong - normal for a 54" bucket is 6 teeth. Spacing should work out to about 10" OC, which sounds about right.

Current price is $184 plus another $70 shipping to SE Michigan.
