Specs Say 900lb max, is 1140 too much?

Hey James - you still here? Since this started with a question relating to my favorite Kubota models, I've got to put my 2 cents in. The L4350 is one of Kubota's most rugged models - based on what they called the L3 chassis. The L4350 manual does say 900 pounds for a box blade. But it also says a chisel plow can weigh 1500 pounds - and the lift capacity 24" behind the end of the lower links is 3200 pounds !

FWIW, the L5450 model (same axle housings and hitch parts as L4350) lists a 1100 pound box blade.

Buy the heavy one - it'll be fine. /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

Hi All,

Well, being an engineer and an educator, I usually am well known for recommending that one "read the manual" first. Then, apply common sense to what you read.

I just checked in the Kubota brochure for the L series and noted that they recommend a 60" rear snowblower for machines that have a minimum tread width of 62.4" and front buckets from 60"-72"wide! Doesn't seem to make complete sense to me, especially when these machines (L3710, L4310 and L4610) are much more powerful than my B2910, which also has a 60" rear snowblower recommendation.

In this case, I have to assume that either there isn't the greatest of communication between the different divisions (Marketing, Sales, Engineering, etc.) or perhaps Kubota is being far too conservative. Either way, if I had any of the aforementioned L series tractors, I'd have no problem at all hanging a 72" or larger blower on the back, based upon my experience with the B2910.

You can't always believe everything that you read.

Rick

P.S. And for what it's worth, I'd put Bird's practical experience, common sense, and non-judgemental attitude above that of just about anyone else I know...real or in cyberspace.

Oh yeah, still here. I have spent a lot of time today soul searching the whole thing. I looked at all of Kubota's new L series tractors and was surprised to see them all weighing in considerably less than what I have. Are the L series likely to remain at the lighter weight?

I currently have one remote, and am checking into adding one or two more. I am now considering just getting the lever actuated HD-215 and just getting by with the one remote for a top link. I was surprised to find the difference my dealer wants for them to be only $150. $2000 vs $1850. And the difference in weight is nearly 200 lbs. So my once confident decision has become cloudy again. Oh, and I am amazed to find that it appears that no one in Oklahoma even keeps a Gannon on the lot. (If anyone knows of someone near here let me know!)

I bought this tractor three years ago, and have been very happy with it's seemingly endless supply of power. I almost bought a new 3410, but spied this used one on the back of the dealers lot. I don't think there is a straight piece of sheet metal on it, but I have yet to find any mechanical problems. It just looked more solid than anything else, and the price was way less than I was prepaired to pay. :)

Thanks again to all for helping me make an informed decision.

You cannot take all recommendations in the owners manual as gospil. One example is weight recommendations for a Backhoe for my machine is appromitately 600#'s, when the BH the manufacturer offers is over 800 #'s.
I do read my manuals and sometimes I push certain limits, but other times I would not go to the published limits, because I have commen sense.
I like this forum because we can get REAL WORLD advice,(whether we use it or not). This REAL WORLD advice in combination with manufacturer recomendations and Common Sense equals Knowlege.

JAMES,
not to sound critical, but that must be a missprint. my L3000DT,
which is a smaller tractor than yours. says, max 3pt lift is 1485lbs.
i would sure be doing some research, and checking on this. 900lbs
sounds low for your size tractor.

Yeah, that was my confusion at first, too, William. But look at the chart in your owner's manual section called Implement Limitations and you'll see a whole bunch of different numbers.

Hi Accordionman,
I would like to hear what your manual says for the box blade size limits. With my lift almost twice what yours is, this will help determine if they consider that in the limits they set.

You all are probably a bit tired of this flame, so let me apologize up front. I just wanted to say that I believe this is the first flame (to my mind) I have ever seen on TBN outside of the off topic group (where its moderately more acceptable). I think one reason for that is no one has risen to the bait. When threads take a negative turn, usually they get little or no response postings, and they die. Bird, you really surprised me with your response, although I can't say I blame you/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif. I have been known to come on a little strong or respond a little too defensively, but you, Bird, have always been as solid as a rock in level-headed responses (or more importantly for fire extinguishing - in not responding). If I were in your shoes, faced with a poke in they eye like Dan's, having just sold my tractor (that I obviously enjoyed very much for years), I would respond with much less diplomacy than you have mustered.

I am maybe straying from my original intentions.

First:
Bird, I have a great deal of respect for you for your wisdom, polite manners, humility, humor and restraint. You are one of the best reasons to visit this site, and I have read posts indicating that others agree with me.

Second:
Lets keep TBN the best place to learn, laugh, talk, play and swap stories. I hope we all recognize how valuable a place we have created (with MUCH help from Muhammad).

Now, what's that you said about my orange/green/blue tractor/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif?

I purchased a L4610 HSTC last year and already owned a Gannon Box blade HD-315LR. My Kubota manual says max box blade weight 770 lbs. I do not know the weight on this box blade, but feel like it weighs a lot more than this. I keep it on the tractor all the time I have the front end loader on for counter balance. The tractor also does a good job with it moving dirt.
I will not be using this much, but hooked up a 10' bush hog which weighs 1790 lbs. To my supprise, it picked it up & mowed. Of course, I feel sure it would damage the tractor if used very much.
