My wood pile has never been bigger since I purchased the Timber Wolf splitter. Still a ton to split, might as well get r done with this balmy weather.

Pile is getting large. Should be at least 6 cords in this pile, give or take a few. This warm weather is just bs, can't ice fish the normal spots at this time of the year. Only positive, I've got wood..

Scut . . . that certainly is a respectful pile . . .

Lots of double handling there!!!

I use a system that cuts wood handling way down. It is a lot cheaper than upgrading to a faster splitter, gives me covered firewood storage in mobile totes and provides the minimum of double handling. As the splits come off the splitter table, they are stacked into totes. I never touch them again until I move them into my carry bag to get them into the house.

IBC 2.jpg

I got 28 IBC totes for $800 delivered and 4 free from my tractor dealer. Each tote holds just under 1/2 cord of wood giving me 15 cords. That is almost three years of firewood for me. It takes under an hour to cut the bottom off the plastic, cut an access opening in the side of the plastic and the cage; and drill holes for zip ties to hold the top on.

Tarps last two years and are a PITA when covered in snow and ice so I was going to have a carport installed to cover the firewood. That was $2000. A better/faster splitter was over $3000. The only expense other than the IBC totes, is a $300 pallet jack from HF to move the totes in my garage as the tractor will not clear. So I "saved" about $4000 in addition to having a better system for my needs.

I like your idea shooterdon, but loading those totes has to be kind of a trick?

I only handle my wood two or three times. Once off the splitter and tossed into the pile, then either into the boiler or into a wheel barrow and then into the boiler.
