Splitting Rock Questions

Were those my rocks, I would figure out a neat landscaping project for them. :thumbsup:

With that said, if your heart is set on breaking them up. Make it fun project. Now this would be real cheap. Most gun shops have black powder, 4 FG is real quick and makes a nice smoky boom. Drill the holes, pack with powder & fuse. Whittle up a few wooden plugs with a grove for the fuse, drive in the plug, light the fuse and get out of there. :laughing:

Holy boulder buster Batman!!!! I was quoted a price of $3,995++++, Plus tax, plus shipping, plus loads, plus heavy loads +++. I still can't see where this little gadget is worth over $4500. I can buy a hyd hammer for my B26 for just over $6000. Much better value in my opinion.

Oh well I guess I will be ordering some cannon fuse, and see if I can split some rock, without blowing myself or the neighbors house up. Wish me luck.

Man if I spent 5 grand and thing didn't split my rock(s) the next shot would be test in someones back side. I believe you could reverse engineer this for couple hundred bucks.

How many people here remember the days when you could get dynamite at the local hardware store? Then you needed a class and permit and now I'm not sure what it entails to use it.

Try and use the Dexpan or similar type product.....We have had VERY good luck with it and its easy to use. Check with your local equipment rental yard for a rock drill package (towable air compressor / rock drill / 4' or 6' shaft / drill bits) they usually rent for around $150.00 per day...the dexpan type product sell for around $100-$120 per box.....Drill holes all over rock pour in material and it cracks rock.....FYI place a tarp or other cover over rock if near cars building sometimes not all holes work and the product will fire back and the dexpan material will shoot out kinda like a volcano (not dangerous just a pain to clean off a car hood)

You could try an oxygen lance, basicaly a 10 foot long pipe with a bundle of iron rods in it. You hook it up to an oxygen regulator and light it with a road flare or a sparker device ( a file hooked onto a car battery) these things burn hot enough to burn through steel, concreat, and stone. look for a video of one on youtube.

We split some rocks, rocks heck, bolders, using feathers and wedges. You can google it. We split tons of bolders to build a greenhouse.

those thinking of cannon fuse? It could be trouble if the fuse burns faster then it is supposed to. Better use lamp cord, a length of lamp cord just cut the female end off strip the wires back place that end in the charge of black powder or similar material. plug it is and boom. I would suggest a long extension cord and have everything unplugged then start at the charge and work your way back to the power source. Of course i do not recommend this and advise getting a "pro" to do it, but then I am just being careful as should you.

Just use a really long piece of cannon fuse and run
