While out and about today I ran into a restaurant to grab some lunch. A lady and her older child sat down two tables from me. The lady started a conversation with an acquaintance at the adjoining table. During the conversation I and half of the restaurant learns that she has just had her son to the Dr and that he has a particularly nasty case of Strep Throat. The boy was obviously sick.
Why would you want to expose people to this? I know some will think its just a sore throat and some antibiotics will take care if it, but I remember spending two weeks in the hospital trying not to lose my kidneys to Strep. Strep can damage the heart and kidneys. Just plain stupid.

I was in a local sandwich shop years ago... the clerk had her young daughter behind the counter with her and as I waited for my order heard her tell everybody that came in "She has mono, and she may be contagious."
She got rather POed when I went up and cancelled my order, and told her that her sick kid had no business behind the counter where food was being prepared.

Strep is nasty, highly contagious, and as you mention can have serious complications. I never had it until our daughter went off to pre-school, and then we were getting it 2-3 times a year. Got so bad I bought strep test kits to keep at home. We were super careful about sanitizing everything around the house, but most people don't know how contagious or recurrent it can be.

Not quite as serious, but, I change checkout lanes if the clerk has the sniffles. :)

I have abandoned several of my favourite pizza places. They seem to think it's OK to run such a business and a nursery at the same time in the same place. Never forget while doing security work in a chinese restaurant and a little boy in the kitchen with his hands in a giant bowl of fried rice. Also, why I avoid any more Mennonite (or other) home cooked or prepared stuff.

I was at a Chinese buffet, they had the fried noodles in a bowl on the counter. One noodle had fallen out onto the floor. A little kid, I'm guessing 4 or 5 saw it and picked it up and put it back in the bowl. And no, the parents didn't see that happen.

Buffets in general are scary. We have no idea who has handled that food before us. A woman told me that she won't eat at one because she used to work at a restaurant
and saw how many times people will sample something, then put it back.

My mother in law can be sick, we don't want her around our kids. She always says "it's not contagious". I always ask "if it's not contagious, then how did you get it?". Stay home sick people!

We live next door to our daughter and her four children under the age of 9,,,

My daughter gets upset when we refer to her children as the four petri dishes,,,
If my wife and I are away from those kids for a month for some reason,, sure enough, whatever illness they have when we see them again,, we will get it,,

If we see the kids EVERY week as a minimum,, the wife and I do not get sick,,
it only happens after an extended period of being away from them.
This has been repeating for close to a half a decade now,,

ANOTHER reason for us to visit the children often,,,

Once upon a time we ate at a very nice buffet restaurant. The food was awesome. I went back for dessert and the guy in front of me got some food on his palm. He proceed to lick his hand clean and then grabbed the spoon handle.:rolleyes::thumbdown: I moved in front of him and skipped the dish he was digging into.:laughing::laughing:

Later,
Dan

That was my dad, it's always been a bad habit of his. He always said "waste not, want not".

I like a particular pizza buffet. But even touching the spatula to get a slice is ugly. Then, eating the pizza with your fingers. I wash my hands befoe and after, but have never seen anyone else do that. Same for Chicken wing places. I have never, ever seen anyone else wash their hands there.

And then, you see people licking their fingers to seperate a bag at the grocery store. Why not go to the Bus Station and lick the pay phone buttons instead?

I always watched like a hawk when ordering a pizza, to see if they wash their hands after handling money. One kid, I called out on it, with his hand covered in flour, got so nervous, he just wiped his hands on his jeans. It was kind of funny.

While on food and germs-----------

I always fear foods offered at bake sales and funds raisings, there is no food agency to monitor the preparation and cooking processes.

Who knows what was picked up from the floor or the dating on the ingredients.
Old eggs? sour milk? dented tins? green meat? OK U get my drift.

I only have coffee at home so I don’t know. How does “Food Safe” work when coffee shops encourage you to bring your “to go cups” for a refill?

Do they wash their hands before and after twisting off the cup’s plastic lid ? Or do they use disposable gloves every time? Way to save the environment!

Can we see how rapid the U.S.A. is moving from a 1st world country to a 3rd world country society. About 60 years ago a stay at home mom would keep her sick kids home from school. Then the economics gradually changed and those moms had to get a job and some had sick leave. Now single moms are working part time, in some instances, so the employer isn't required to pay minimum wage and that single mom cannot afford to take time off. And on we go down the slope.

I have seen someone at the grocery store unscrew the lid on a tube of toothpaste and touch his tongue to it to sample the flavor.

I have seen peoples infant kids, years ago at the dinner table do the same with a ketchup bottle. Maybe it's the same people, all growed up.

I was a t a restaurant a while ago where there were a few menonnite women and a lot of children. After they left, another table summoned the waitress, and after that she went over and removed all the salt and pepper shakers from where the menonnites had been sitting.

My wife and I own a convenient store. You wouldn't believe the number of adults, male and female who will come in and stand around talking then say "I've had the squirts" or "I've had the flu and had to get out of the house" while BOTH our young kids are in the store with us.

I stopped at a convenience store on the way home for something to drink. A sirian or other refugee apparently bought the place and had his kid in diapers with him at cash. Last time, I will stop there. I don't know why, but you seem to see that more and more.
