Not to rubb it in:) - but the whole europe is on GSM system and to change an operator you just need to get a new SIM card and put it in your phone. The competition is tougher and it does wonders for the customer service:)

There's nothing to rub in since there are GSM carriers in the US as well, Cingular being one of them.

Our contract is about ready to run out with Cingular. We are probably going to stay with them as I really only have 2 choices them or Sprint. Alltell, T-mobile, etc. leave major coverage gaps around here. I've had a cell phone since about '94. Been through several carriers in that time including one of the first digital ones in the nation (Aerial - which has been my favorite service as far as reliability just not a lot of coverage it is now part of Verizon which uses GSM). I used to buy the top end phones and whatever went with them. But when I went with Sprint the first time about 7 years ago, I decided no more and took whatever they have for free or cheap and have been much happier now that $XXX phone isn't getting scratched or broken.

As far as service, I prefer the GSM much better than the CDMA that Sprint uses. At least around here it is much more reliable and a lot fewer dropped calls.

Sprint sucks................

Having had them for the last 8 years, I feel justified in my opinion. My wife has had Cingular thru all it's variants for the same period of time and plan cost and coverage have always been better with her carrier. Why do I stay with Sprint? It's my company phone, and they insist. Since they pay for it, I go along. When we travel she gets siginificantly better coverage and connectivity than I do................

GSM is terrible where I live. I had it with Cellular One and they let me out of my contract after 5 months... no charge plus they told the dealer to take the phone back and refund me.

Choosing a cell provider where I live is tough because they are all lacking in something and oftentimes your signal will skip across Lake Erie to a Canadian tower and you will be in roam.

I like that idea about the insurance and new phones.... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Think that's why insurance rates go up? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
