amhicks21 is right. If you have electric 3rd function valves (full on/off) you will want restrictors or your plow will really slam on angling. I used 0 to 5 gpm needle valves from Surplus Center. They work well on my M5640 tractor. I also used a cross over relief valve for SC. Plow cylinders had a warning not to exceed 2500 psi all over them. My tractor runs at 2800 plus when you push into a solid bank or hit something you will want hydraulic relief to protect the cylinders.

Gordon,

Very thoughtful mounting configuration that reduces the plow's leverage on the tractors loader arms.

Well done.

Thank you - but I can't take credit for the idea, I stole it from TractorNH. He posted this thread

I works very well though. The plow floats the same as a truck plow but I can also get hydraulic down pressure for back dragging.

Occasionally I run across some good well thought out work on TBN while trying to be helpful to others. I see you improved on TractorNH's design by adding gusseting at an obvious weak point.

We all get better by standing on the shoulders of the ones who go before us so long as we are willing to listen.

I miss the skiing but not the 30"+ of snowfall. I remember one year plowing with a Ford 350 superduty and having snow coming up over the hood. Had to put 2 ton of sand in back to push with plow angled, otherwise the back just pivoted around the blade.

Finally got the snowplow all finished. It turned out really nice, but over budget naturally.

Today, everything goes over budget, just saying. Filled my gas cans ant the mini van this AM and it was over 100 bucks, certainly over budget...lol

I had earlier estimated $600. Then i decided to add the crossover relief valve. I've got approximately $600 in it at this point, but still need to pay my dad for the plow itself and use of his welder.

PreacherM,

Nice looking finished snow plow adaption. Interesting how each you, PreacherM and Gordon Gould, each produced essentially the same outcome but by different designs.

I chose a different route to remove snow. Moved from CT to TN & NC. Snow arrives and then wait for a few hours and snow disapears. :)

Where's the fun in that?

Where's the fun in that?
Fun is riding a motorcycle 12 months of the year. The highway departments don't salt or sand the roads so no rusty clap trap cars and no coming around a bend in the road, on a motorcycle, to find it covered with sand.

Fun is going to autocross events ( "solo" ) and high performance driving events in all 12 months of the year.

Fun is not having to add anti jelling additive to my tractor's diesel fuel in the winter time and being able to dig in the ground without having to break thru the frost layer.

To each his own. You and I have differnt ideas of fun (and I think I've only added anti gelling additive to my tractor's fuel in maybe 2 or 3 out of the 21 years I've lived in Vermont. The gas stations switch the formulation for the winter here. I use my tractor year round and have only been bitten by the gelling bug once.)

Fun is living in a place with four seasons, going hiking out my back door in the summer or up into the mountains, enjoying the fall colors cross country skiing on our trails in the winter, and alpine skiing at my choice of several ski areas within about an hour's drive.

When my kids were younger, fun was making snowmen and building snow forts, teaching them about camping in all four seasons (and sleeping comfortably in a snow cave we made ourselves when it dipped down to 0˚F out - I have not yet exposed my kids to the joys and challenges of camping in -20˚F. I might have missed my chance, since the youngest is a senior in high school now.)

I will NEVER live in a place without a real winter.

John_Mc,

Absolutely agree on fun means different things to each person. I spent 55 years in CT and moved to TN & NC due to crazy cost of living/ high taxes in CT. No income tax in TN and I do enjoy the milder winters.

My wife and I still own acreage and a farm house built in early 1800's in South Charlestown, NH. Never updated so still has cast iron stove in kitchen, pot belly stove in each bedroom, only cold running water, and no electricity. Only got the community phone line because if we refused then the rest of the neighbors on road would not have gotten phone. Ground froze a few years ago to 8 foot deep and didn't thaw out till August. When Y2K histeria hit, we headed to the farm house with some cash in hand and waited for the end of the world. Since their was nothing electronic in the house , there was nothing to break. Threw some wood in the stove and had a great weeks vacation.

I just walked out door and took below picture while responding to thread. We regularly get 2-3 feet of snow at the house during a storm. Living here gives me choices somewhat like living in WA state where you can go sailing on Puget sound and then go skiing on the same day in 15 feet of powder at the Snohamish ski resorts.

I truely do understand the joy of living in northern NE but I also enjoy the freedom of choosing the warm weather activities when I want to.

Here was build two years ago. Primarily copied from Gordon and Chim. Two years running now and no issues.

Amen. But I'll just say that DANG, the crazy warm fall we've had in Michigan (and presumably much of the midwest and northeast) has been super nice! T-shirt weather again yesterday for outdoor chores. When "summer" lasts well into November, it makes the winter a bit more bearable. I love x-country skiing and snowboarding, and playing with my kids in the snow. But a few months of this for "winter" is long enough, haha. Our fellow Michiganders way up in the Upper peninsula often have 6-7 months of winter.... a bit much if you ask me.

We haven't even had a hard frost yet. Looks like normal cool weather starts on Saturday; I'm ready.

The under slung mounts discussed in several threads Speed Test on here keep your blade closer to the tractor,
