At 8600ft you might be able rope one of those satellites as it goes by and make it your own, lol.

Ya they are 550 km up (341 miles) so I will need to get a bit closer. I am also very interested to see how it performs in storms (rain, snow) at that altitude.

I was watching youtube video, Chris from Crosstalk Solutions in the wet side of Oregon said he didn't see a problem during heavy rain. He lives down where there's enough oxygen in the air, to support live so there is that though.

I’m thinking when mine comes I’ll put up about the 1000th YouTube video of me unboxing it and watching the dish move.

We haven't had it long enough to see heavy rain yet, but light rain made no difference at all, and a heavy snowstorm (1" per hour rate) did not seem to be a problem either. I did not check speeds during the heavy snowstorm, but both kids and both adults were on during it, and no one was complaining. The heater built in to the dish keeps the snow off even in below 0˚F temperatures. We've never had to go out and brush the snow off (unlike our satellite TV dish).

I would imagine that higher altitude only helps you: the less atmosphere to go through the better.

I don't see StarLink throttling data. I don't think they will need to do that at all, but as someone else said, even throttled, it would be better than CenturyStinks 1.5 mbps we get now.

Right now we have DSL that we use as a back up and for the kids. We have two DSL lines. Are primary Internet connection is UbiFi and we have not had any problems with data throttling. This was a concern when we bought the server a couple of years ago but it has not be an issue even using 120-150GB a month.

I don't know what we will do when StarLink arrives and we see that it works without issues. I would like to keep UbiFi as a backup but it is too expensive. Maybe we can find a cheaper cell connection plan. I really like having the cell connection as a backup. One time, we went on a trip and knew we would have poor Internet, so we took the UbiFi hardware with us. Plugged it in and we were connected like at home. Very nice. (y)

We want to get rid of CenturyStink ASAP.

Later,
Dan

They will probably have to if there are abusers. The satellites each only have so much throughput and the more people they add the less it will be. Right now the limitations are human ingenuity. We cant beam data any faster yet.

SpaceX wants its Starlink satellite internet system to be available in cars, boats, and aircraft. 🚙🚢✈️ The system is currently designed to supply 150Mbps and up broadband speeds to people’s residences. But on Friday March 5, SpaceX filed an application with the FCC to get clearance to bring Starlink to moving vehicles in the US.
