Starlink

I wish they would post more information on their website as to when they are opening new cells and what time frame for ones that have put down their deposit as when to expect Starlink being available, Not just the mid to late 2021.

Another launch of 60 scheduled for this evening.

Ive been signed up for several months, no updates, nothing. Every once in a while I'll get an email telling me to go to Starlink's site and order the package. One email even stated that I have about 15 minutes to order due to low supplies. Took me about 2 minutes to see the email, click the link, enter my address... only to be told that supplies have run out.

You gotta be quick.

But what really ticks me off is my buddy, who lives in suburbia, did get it. He ditched cable internet for Starlink and boasts how wonderful it is. I have crap internet where I'm at. $170/mo for Viasat satellite which I blow though their 150Gb plan in about 2 1/2 weeks, then I get throttled. I wish I had cable internet! Starlink is my salvation, cheaper, faster, more reliable (so far). But SpaceX does not care exactly where you are, or what your current internet connection status is. They have a "first come-first served" mindset.

Kinda wish they would do what Tesla has done: pre-order. I would put a deposit down for Starlink to get a guaranteed system when it comes available. Instead I have to sit on my email waiting, like trying to be the 9th caller on the old radio shows to win tickets to a concert.

I got the beta invite on Feb 8, paid for the package on Feb 9. It shipped yesterday, arriving tomorrow. The property is filled with tall redwoods, but there is a north facing gap. If that doesn't work I might have to hire a tree climber to install it on a 100 ft redwood. I think one or two of the users in the reddit group did something like that.

Are you saying you weren't able to put a deposit down when you signed up? When I signed up, I had to put a deposit down and was informed the remaining costs would be charged to my credit card when I get shipping notification.

When I signed up last fall there was no option for a deposit. But on 2/8 I got the e-mail that it was available in my area. I placed an order on 2/16 and paid for the full package. Based on the above, I'm hoping to receiving a shipping notice in the next week or so since I'm a little behind Pat on the timing.

Yeah, no option for a deposit. Wasnt aware there was one. I have received several email invites from Starlink. Every time I try to order, the supplies have run out. Its probably a regional thing. Their FAQ states that:

"Starlink satellites are scheduled to send internet down to all users within a designated area on the ground. This designated area is referred to as a cell.
Your Starlink is assigned to a single cell. If you move your Starlink outside of its assigned cell, a satellite will not be scheduled to serve your Starlink and you will not receive internet. This is constrained by geometry and is not arbitrary geofencing."

So maybe my cell is completely filled up? Idk. I check back almost daily.

And this is what I get everytime I try to order:

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN ORDERING STARLINK!

Starlink is not yet available in your area but as we launch more satellites, we continue to expand our coverage area. Please check back for future availability in your area.

It really depends on how many people in your immediate area have applied for the beta notification and how fast they are at reacting to the e-mail. I happened to be lucky enough that even after waffling on it for a week after I got the e-mail in early Feb there was still availability.
