Starlink

With gen3, all you need to do is buy an additional gen3 router. Those routers are a mesh router.

The problem with that is what happens if/when you get fiber or move off Starlink for another reason? You've spent a lot on Starlink hardware that likely isn't the best choice without them as ISP.

I use the Starlink as a modem only, pass-through mode, there were not enough security or access controls to satisfy me when I first installed it. Instead preferring to use my own router where I can control every aspect of the network such as having multiple SSID with no crossover access between them or profiles that prohibit/block specific sites and background (tracking, privacy) processes.

I probably put more way more effort into securing my network than the majority would consider necessary or want to do...

Sell it there's a market for them.

I just got an email starlink offering free dish with 12 mth contract.
I got it also. Right now wish I would have a dish. Waited for fiber from the power company, got it last fall. It was great. Ice storm came through first of April, and they basically had to rebuild the system. Main lines, poles, and house drops. Jon

The fiber there putting in here has been underground. Ill have to wait and see what they do on my street. But they did ask our association for easement use, so i would assume they are planning underground

I don't think I've ever heard of fiber on poles. Huh.

Fiber is by the co-op power company serving this area. Hence on the poles for the mainlines. Home drops follow your powerline, ie either on the poles and/or underground. Underground is in orange flexible conduit, with pull boxes every 400 to 500ft between them. Jon
