start date for a 7.3psd?

My uncle bought a 7.3 new in 89 or 90. It was 5sp, and had constant clutch issues. So he traded it in for a 94 7.3 Non turbo, 4 speed automatic. At a dealership I buy parts from still today. They told my uncle to get the automatic, you had to buy the non turbo. The whole reason he traded the other truck in was to get the automatic, so that's what he did. Then in 2000 he bought another new truck, and sold me the 94. I have seen 95s with the auto. Am I believe you guys have seen 94 autos if you say you have. Possibly the no auto issue was for a very very short time, or only available in certain regions. (or my uncle dealt with a crappy salesman)

I have a '94 7.3 IDI turbo that I bought new in '94. That year they offered that engine, the non turbo and the first year of the 7.3 power stroke ( which was not without it's problems in the beginning.) When I took delivery the service manager asked if I was going to plow it, I said yes that was the idea. He had a tranny cooler added at no charge and said to plow in low range, OD locked out. Worked for me, 8' Fisher that has a mirror finish , that 'ol girl has moved a L O T of snow ! Still on original tranny. :thumbsup:

I drove a Super Duty 2011, with the diesel, what a beauty ! But $50,000 for a plow truck , wow ! I looked under the hood and the salesman said if it doesn't have a yellow cap on it don't touch it ! Got a feeling I'm not going to get 17 years out of my next truck ! When I got my ' 94 diesel was $.94 a gallon and I got twice the mileage of my F250 with a 351. Looks like my next truck may be a gasser but I think I'll keep the F350 and my '99 Dodge cummins till they don't cast a shadow !

Automatic transmissions were available in '94, but not with the 7.3 PowerStroke engine. You could get an auto, but as your uncle found out you couldn't get one with the PSD until '95.

MtnView, you have good points. The 7.3 non turbo made 360 ft lbs torque. The 7.3 turbo made 395 ft lbs. I used to have a 02 7.3 ( it burnt up ) There was a window sticker 250 hp, 525 ft lbs. I guess these figures all seem low today. And it for sure could be that guy. I don't know the miles on his truck. My truck has 165,000 miles on it. But it looks like it has 365,000 miles.

The gasoline engine is what I was thinking, groundcover. The diesels made today might make huge power, but they are not what a diesel used to be. My 94 is to the point where I need to upgrade, or restore it. And there are quite a few used trucks flooding the market.

I had a '94 F-350 dually with the 7.3 idi Turbo. These trucks had a "Turbo Diesel" badge on the tailgate. These engines were used throughout the '94 model year with auto and manual transmissions. The PowerStroke came out in late '94 and was used only with manual transmissions until the '95's came out and then they were used with autos and manuals. The 7.3 idi Turbo diesel was a good engine, no computers or electronics.

the one I saw must be a 7.3 idi turbo.. it had the tailgate badge.. etc. must be pre PSD.

I have a '97 F350 4x4 long bed crew cab that I bought new in '97. It has the IH 7.3 IDI Turbo engine and the rating plate on the valve cover is 215 horse.

It's a bit more now. Quite a bit more actually.

I like the OBS trucks and no, it's not for sale. Never seen snow. it stays in a heated garage all winter. I get asked all the time. Not a spot of rust and a full Banks kit plus a FORD SVO custom built E4OD (thanks BIL).

I hate to ask, but are you sure it isn't a PowerStroke? My research indicates that after the end of the '94 model year, the only diesel option was a 7.3 liter PowerStroke.

Got any pictures? I'd love to see some engine photos. I'm not doubting you, I've just never heard of such a creature and would love to see one.

We still have five international trucks in our fleet with the ps 7.3. They keep chugging. Just serviced the highest mileage one the other week, 455,000 miles. Never had a head off. The rest of the 5 are 6 pallet trucks. That one is an 8!!

In 96 or 97 we had a customer with the interim model that had the ats turbo. Couldnt keep the heads on it. Not very thought out. Just add a turbo and see what happens.

It's a 7.3 Powerstroke IH engine. No pictures. I'm not photogenic, neither is the truck It's an XLT loaded. with cloth interior.

I bought it back before I retired and I put quite a bit of money in modifications. Did an ORU shakle reversal on the front, replaced the all the OEM bushings with roller bearing greaseable bushings, Super U's in the driveline, air lift bags on the rear with an onboard compressor, 2 Hayden Swirl Cool trans coolers and an ARB air locker in the front and Detroit Tru-track out back....and all the Banks crap.

Considering what they cost today versus mine (I paid around 29 A plan in 97), it's a keeper. Someone will get a good truck from my estate.
