Harv, quick question. In one of your photos it shows you with a large pipe wrench tightening the upper pipe to the bottom pipe. Would it possible for you to pull the entire pipe loose from the grips of the concrete footer using the pipe wrench? I did not know if the pipe that was encased in concrete had anything attached to it to prevent uplift and twist.

We've got the domain name thereaboutstexas.com and .net for the novel. I've always liked strong women who had more whatevers than most men can claim. The story is about a woman in 1937 who marries and moves to Texas.

I'm having as much writing it as I have had at just about anything. I get to tell the stories I grew up with and I get to add new ones I get from people who have them about that era. The internet gives us so much power for research. In 1935 the NY Times had a story about Kellogs celebrating Rice Krispies being an overnight hit. So I get to have Rice Krispies for breakfast in the book.

The most common question I get about the stories is where I get them. I grew up hearing them and now I can weave them into the lives of characters. It's just too much fun.

A couple of weeks ago I took some pictures of the work I'm doing up there.

edit, half the pictures didn't come through, double doggone darn computers.....

I did not know if the pipe that was encased in concrete had anything attached to it to prevent uplift and twist.

The pipe is in a hole seven feet deep and a foot and a half in diameter. There's enough surface contact to prevent any kind of twisting loose under anything less than forces like a tornado.

On hinge posts for big gates I will cut in big holes in the pipe below grade. Cutting is easier than welding and I believe a five inch pimple of concrete in a post is a heckuva resistance to twist.

I don't have an Eddie yet Eddie. But I do have some snakes, it's in Texas after all....

That sounds good Don. It's about Thereabouts, Texas. I already have a snake handler named Eddie penned in. I guess I could have a constable named Jim and his sidekick we could call Don. Of course Jim's wife would be called Karen and Don's would be Kathy so no one would know who I was talking about.....

What?. . . No Grandma Birdie? You gotta have a Grandma Birdie.;)

well harv if you get slow call me. I've still got that customer in Rockwall I think I told you about. He wants a bridge across a creek in the back of his house. 20ft span it's out of my wheelhouse. He wants it to match his 2 story house and pavillion which is all leuders or austin stone. It's a big project and needs someone like you. Its a pedestrian bridge but needs to hold a ZTR mower.

I thinks he's ready to do it. It would be a project for the books I assure you. If we showed this guys some of your work I think he'd be all over it in snap.
