steering wheel spinner knobs

The spoke doesn't stick out any further than it did befor ethey cut the steering wheel off.. so i dn't see how your comment applies?

If some-thing- was sticking up for this spoke to hit it.. it would have done soe with the oem multi-spoke steering wheel..e tc?????

Perhaps I didnt visuallize correctly. I thot the wheels presence would often prevent you from being hit by the spoke due to the protective nature of the "ring" in any radial approach.

I don't usually stick any body parts up in the travel path near the steering wheel.. desides.. on the green trikes.. it's quite forward.. old letter series anyway..

I never did quite get behind the spinner knob concept. (I guess if my tractor had mudflaps, curb feelers and fuzzy dice.........)

On older tractors without power steering, I've known a few people to end up with broken thumbs. Hands wrapped firmly around the steering wheel when a front wheel finds a ground hog hole and makes the front wheels turn full lock in a nao-second......OUCH!

Seems like a spinner would just get ripped out of your hand in the same situation. Me and my old fashioned ways, I'd rather have my hands on the OUTSIDE of the steering wheel, letting it spin, in sort of a "slip clutch" mode.

As one of those "old guys" who remembers when power steering was a rarity, I thank my lucky stars every time I use a "newfangled" tractor WITH power steering!

I actully use two spinners. They are mounted at 180 degrees from each other. I have a Mahindra 6500. I'm 5'7", and driving this tractor involves a lot of reaching for me. The steering wheel is rather large, and the two of them work super for me.

Have a body that is always in pain. Hands - big time. The spinners help a lot. In the process of modding the loader and 3ph arms/handles, to cut down of the reaching bending . Have been experimenting with an old chrome faucet spout that is bent at about a 90. This has worked on both the loader and 3ph controls ok. I have it rigged so that I can just slip it off and on either arm, according to what I am doing with the tractor.

Larger knobs also help, as the grip required is not as small. Anyone else in this situation that has improvised things that work better?

I am pretty old myself, and the spinners have always been of interest, and many people still use them. They were used in cars, trucks, and tractors. That suicide knob crap is just that, Yes some, but how would they even know if that was the cause. I believe that it was Ford that had a built in spinner on the inside of the steering wheel. Maybe some have had a bad experience, but I would guess that most haven't. Perhaps if you used one you would be aware of it's advantage. Of course if you use it wrong it will get your attention real quick. I have a Kubota B7100 HST, and a B9200 HST, Ford 8N, and my Power-Trac, and they all have spinners. They help out quite a bit. But, to each his own.

JJ, Sorry but you missed Egon's intent. He was referring, in a humorous manner, to not knowing/remembering why anyone would want a GIRLIE PICTURE in the knob.

for the rest of the spinner crowd... why not cut off the rim of the steering wheel and mount a spinner at the end of each spoke? Not appealing to me personally as I have no need or desire for a spinner (unless it has a neat girlie pic in it) being as how I am one of the "slip clutch" crowd.

After years of repetitive motion in LUMBER mills ihad my first carpitunnel surgery in my right wrist last year.With my left failing fast,my company finally convinced my coworkers to job swap with me to give my old bones a breakI operated our large JCB FORKLIFT 1/2 of the day and my condition worsened to the point where i almost went in to get that one chopped too.Then the lumber inspector who checks my grading,tolD me the industry has been plauged by problems from injurys leading to spinner knobs on lift trucks.I tryed to remove it ,but found it too difficult and time consuming to operate without it,driving with one hand on the sticks and one to steer with.
Ithen cut back my lift truck time to 1/4th of the day and my condition improved to the point where i hardly notice the symptoms.Did i mention my other job requires me to flip and turn thousands of boards a day.Iguess it has something to do with that knob pressing in my hand in a certain spot erritated my carpitunnel nerve
On a related subject my wife bought me one for my KUBOTAfor xmas from TSC.The steering wheel is too big for the supplyed bracket

One of the funniest was RobJ getting good naturely hammered about his JD spinner.

Ok problem solved.

BUT!!! The orange TSC spinner is cheaply mode compared to the Deere model. It doesn't sound like it has a nice sealed bearing and on the JD I can see a brass bushing/bearing. Also the TSC model did not come with the rubber piece to help keep it straight on the wheel. The bracket holes matched up and looked like it might have come from the same company. So I may have to go greene once again! I actually noted this weekend I don't touch anything but the spinner now.

I have an el cheapo TSC one that is black. I had to use longer screws than what came with it to make it attach to the thicker steering wheel spoke. Green is just fine on an orange tractor, especially if the bearing is better made. Does it have the Deere logo on it?

I have one on my L2800 with power steering and love it. I find myself holding onto it more often than the steering wheel. In my opinion, it's money for fel work!
