Stoltzfus or Kuhn spreader?

Many brands of European implement manufacturers
are dealing with regional distributors like Cummings
and Bricker as there are fewer and fewer retailers
for farm equipment and this is the normal state of
affairs for these 2 brands and many others like Caroni
and Wolagri from Italy.

For what its worth Vicon has been making these
pendulum spreaders for almost 50 years and they were
recently purchased by Kverneland and are wholly owned
by Kverneland now.

A Pendulum spreader has right angle gearbox that has a
speed up setting to allow you to spread widely as well.

The width of throw on the pendulum is manually adjusted
just like the delivery opening in the base of the hopper with
sliding doors that regulate the amount of material dropping
into the pendulum arm and out of the spout.

The Sales staff at Cummings and Bricker will talk to you
so no worries there, these pendulum spreaders are very
well thought out integral implements with precise controls
to prevent waste using catch boxes that attach to the base
of the spreaders to prevent wasting the material you want to
spread and to allow for the proper settings for the material
discharge door.

The fiber glass hopper is easy to clean just as the base is with
warm water and a small brush if needed.

I've looked at the Herd 750s but never got around to getting one. The Kuhn looks interesting but I think I would make sure to get the agitator. One thing I read from a member here who bought the Herd is that once it gets empty the agitator starts banging the sides. It looks like the VSA has a black disk to reduce it as well as the round shape. I think the agitator is needed if you want to use straight sand (much cheaper). Here's a picture of the inside of the Herd.

I don't know how accurate it is but I did find this when looking for info on the Vicon spreader in the past. The date is from 2005 but it seams to be a price list.

At this point I don't care how many years Vicon has been making spreaders, and I don't care if my next door neighbor is a dealer for their products. They have had over a week to answer my e-mails and I have heard nothing from them.

crazyal - I have been reading about the herds I know it's designed to beat the sides like that, but I don't like the idea of giving rust a helping hand. I'm not ruling them out yet though.

I'd like to know what you find out about the Kuhn spreaders. I'm not too worried about rust as I have no plans of using anything but sand in it.

I'll post an update after I look at one in person, it might be a few weeks before I get a day off though.

It's been two years now since I've had a tractor with a pto and with the unusual weather this year I've had to put sand down at least a dozen times by hand and yet I still haven't gotten around to breaking down and buying one. I doubt a few weeks (or months) will change that. I'm actually hoping to find a dealer who has one this spring that they want to unload at a discount.

I'm really hoping to find some deals on snow equipment this spring as well. I think the mild winter is in my favor.

I'm lucky it has been a mild winter, this is my first winter in snow country and if it had been a bad one I would have been caught with my pants down. I plan to be ready before next year.
