STOP RAINING!

We are glad to see it has finally stopped raining here. The guy next door cut his hay about a week ago. Yesterday, it stopped raining long enough for him to rake it. Don't know how good it's going to be. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif If it don't stop raining, hay is gonna get real expensive.

OK, Farmers are an incredible breed. I don't think I could ever put up with all the troubles they deal with.

That line I quoted above just sounds nuts to me because the last couple years here, the price of hay has been high do to the complete lack of rain. The last four days not withstanding, we are deep into a seven-year drought here in Colorado. 4.5 inches of moisture this year as opposed to the 7.5 inches normal. The winter wheat fields are looking worse than ever, something I didn't think was possible. This year it can't be more than a foot high. Tallest thing in the fields is the weeds.

So today I am going to sit back, screw the top off a Bud and drink to those crazy farmers. God Bless them, they are better men than I.

In New England we call that "water front property". Always sells for a premium price around here. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Hopefully it will stop raining soon and things will dry out for you.

It's actually a beautiful day here today - cool and partly cloudy with no rain in sight for the first time in a long time. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I went out to my property late this morning and still had standiing water in some places. I opted to wait until tomorrow to try to catch up on my mowing rather than run the risk of making even more ruts out there. With no rain tonight I should be able to start mowing early, early tomorrow AM.

It's been two weeks today since the front has seen a mower and it looks like it. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I may have to lower the wheels and cut an inch or more higher than I'd like then reset the wheels and do it again. I'm not thrilled with the idea of spending the entire day mowing but I don't see any really good alternatives. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I got wet from my knees down doing yard work Thursday, but thought things were beginning to dry out. And then we got another downpour this afternoon. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif But I did buy some rubber boots at Tractor Supply Co. yesterday. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Any day that you can go to TSC and buy something is a good day. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I just bought a new come-along(SP) I am sure that aint right.?.? MY son got the ATV stuck across the creek in a bad spot. I took my little bota(BX22) over to get him out. I forgot the MMM was on the tractor and got stuck real good. Everyone knows that 4WD only means you will get stuck in more inaccesible places. My neighbors tractors are too large to get to where I was stuck; luckily I had a few trees close enough to strap onto. I don't think I would had gotten stuck if I woulda had the MMM off the tractor, lesson learned. I had fun gettin it out and didn't break anything. Thought I would almost never use a shovel again. Bad thing was the MMM was on and the BH and FEL was not. Told my son if he gets her stuck again then he was gonna be out an ATV or he could work till he got it out, no more help from Dad. He says 'Yeah yeah yeah, until you want to ride. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif As for the flooding I had last year, that was an extremely wet year. The property I have is worth having a possible flood every now and then. Most of the time it is beautiful and peaceful. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Looks like Virginia last year. After 3 or 4 years of drought we made it all up in 2003. This year has been pretty normal so far. I can actually get some things done outside.

I just can't believe this. I live in the southern tier of NY state.
We are experiencing DROUGHT!

The grasses are already browned out. The paddocks stopped growing (cept for the thistle and milkweeds) and the clay is cracked like the desert.

The stream fed pond is 1/2 empty and the stream bed is powder.

All this being said, this morning I woke up to an all-night rain. FINALLY. Supposed to get 3 days of intermittent percips.

I keep reading bout swamping 150 miles away in all directions.

Prior to this morning, we were as dry as a bone since April.

Can't you drain it somehow? I would suppose whatever moeny you put into it is a business write off.

In WNY we've been getting weather almost every 2-3 days like clockwork. I built my house last fall/winter when the weather was reasonably good. January was rotten and it hasn't stopped sense. I spent a good chunk of money at my house putting a gravity drain in my house to get the water from running the sump pump every 20 seconds. Best thing I ever did. No water trouble at all now no matter how much rain we get

SHHHHH! Don't tell him that. If he gets it to run off quickly, it will make my creek flood worse. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif.................chim

LOL!

Unfortuantly I am just a lowley salesman and its not my decision. While it does flood, it drains pretty quickly.

Flash Floods comming your way!

I guess there's one benefit from living downstream. I'll know when to watch the Merchandiser for a Flood Sale /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif...............chim

Neil, I think you got lucky with only the 4". I heard on the news that areas just south of you got from 7 to 11".
