Chipper Stop The Burn!! (New Jimna Chipper)

Thanks Tommy,

I haven't made up my mind yet, still comparing, and checking. I'm still confused over the 6 & 8 inch Jinma shown by KPX. They even called me on the phone, and are supposed to be sending me some literature. Bearcat has an 8" with Hyd feed, very pricey. I just have hundreds, maybe thousands of these darn pines, 6 inches, some even bigger, and am worried that the 6 inch unit won't handle them with the limbs still attached to the main trunk. If I have to strip off the limbs to feed them in, then I may as well burn them. If there is anybody within 50 miles of Dahlonega, GA, and wants to show me theirs, I'll be happy to come see it. I can even bring a few of these sorry pines to grind up.

Thanks Again,

If you do a search on Google or Ebay for "wc8 chipper" you will find a handful of people selling the 8" jinma chipper. However, in the specifications the only differences are the maximum diameter, and the minimum horsepower -- 30HP for the 8". The weight, dimensions, and flywheel diameters are the same for both.

I just got my new 6" Jinma running today. I'd say, if you're trying to chip a 6 inch tree without removing the limbs, you're going to need at least a 12" chipper, if not larger.

Your probably right, but by the time the trunk that has the limbs on it get to the throat it will be smaller than 6 inches, at least that is what I'm thinking. The Wallenstein that I'm supposed to go and test drive, has a throat of 6 X12 inch, and might just work. We shall see.

Anybody living North of Atlanta wants to shom me their Jinma in action, then let me know.

Doesn't seem to be a dealer around here.

Thanks,

I'm about 45 minutes east of Asheville NC. That's a decent ride ride from Atlanta, but I have done it in under 4 hours.

If you want to come try my chipper, I will have a large pile of tree branches ready for you. Freshly cut, old ones, etc. I will even mix in multiple tree species for you to try. The gloves and hearing protection are ready.

I think you should run it for about 3 solid hours to really get a good feel for it. When you are done chipping, let me know what you think and then post a message here on TBN.

Mine is due to arrive any day, but here are some links to video of it in operation:

China Depot PTO-Driven Wood Chippers

It's hard to tell from the videos exactly how well it works, but it seems to be best suited to chipping logs rather than shredding brush.

Here's my question: in the specifications, it says the "efficiency" is 7-8 cubic meters per hour -- which would be almost ten cubic yards per hour. That sounds hard to believe. Is anyone getting close to that rate?

No.
I have probably chipped 10 to 12 yards so far, but that has taken about 5 -6 hours. I am chipping Cedar/Juniper, fresh and dry.
My tractor puts out 34 hp at the PTO and the engine is running at 2000 RPM.
It is good, but not 10 yards per hour good.

I've got a chipper made exactly like the Wallenstien. Works like a champ. It may be a little more money but they are built tough!!! Rotating member is heavier I think than the Jinma. Takes 4" stuff without batting an eye. Haven't put any larger in it yet as thats firewood.

You MIGHT, under ideal conditions, get 7-10 cubic yards per hour. This would mean chipping soft wood such as straight pine in logs that would be 5" in diameter.

Hardwood will slow you down.
Putting in 3" or smaller logs will reduce maximum efficiency. (half the feed chute is empty)
And of course the biggest thing is not having someone feeding it 60 seconds out of every minute. If you had a work table leading up to the chute edge, you could theretically have one person standng there doing nothing but feeding. In real life, there will be short periods of time between a log finishing and the tip of the next one hitting the flywheel. If you had 45 seconds of chipping and then 15 seconds before the next piece, you just lost 25% of your maximum capacity.

Important note: The Jinma is NOT a shredder. It is for chipping ONLY. Do not feed it a bunch of stuff under 1" or leaves or other material already ground up. It works great as long as it can grab a solid stiff piece with the feed roller and feed it in a continous straight motion. Small branches under 1" tend to be too flexible and they will not feed right. Very small branches under 3/8" will try to wind around the feed roller bearing supports. This will cause jambs and broken feed belts. This is why you see everyone mentioning buying extra feed belts. Tiny stuff will jamb the roller and you will break the belt.

If you need a shredder that will GRIND up material, the Jinma is not for you. I'm not being sarcastic, but it is a chipper and it will produce CHIPS only.

Thanks for the demo offer, but driving 4 hours one way, then chipping 3 hours, then driving home, well for a retired guy that seems a bit much.

I did find a tread on Tractorpoint.com, that was as good as a demo.

Jinma chipper review Wood Chippers 3PH

Based on this information, I'll keep looking some more. I'm also looking at a Salsco unit, with Hydraulic feed. Its coming down to a Wallenstein or the Salsco.

Thanks,
