I have a 30 gallon gas container that I find difficult to move. I figure it weights over 200 pounds. I considered welding a quick attach plate to it, but I was reluctant to weld to a gasoline container and did not want to use up my last quick attach plate for a single use purpose. I figured if I could attach a strap with a ratchet to a quick attach plate, it would be easy to move.
I bought two steel cable clamps and welded the u-bolts to the quick attach plate. I cut the bolts short with about a 45 degree angle on the cut, so I would have a lot of welding area. I had to grind a little metal out of the center of the u-bolts to have room to put the cable hook in. I put a board over the end of the quick attack plate to allow the tank to clear the hooks. I hope this is strong enough. I picked up the tank and it worked fine, but it was only half full.

A picture lifting the 30 gallon gas container would help me to understand how it worked. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

OK I got the pictures. It was really easy to attach this time, although I need to add a couple of pieces of wood so the wood cannot fall off and then paint it.

I hope these pictures make it clearer. That 100K limit really makes me crop the picture.

Last picture with this tank.

I have a few comments on the tank. It's got it's own pump which can load and unload the tank. It also fills through the cap. What I don't like about it is it's too heavy to move when loaded unless its on a smooth pavement. I think it was designed for use in a garage to unload gas tanks that have to be dropped. It does not really seem to be designed to be left outside. I generally keep a plastic bag over the top to keep moisture out. It also cannot be hauled in a vehicle when loaded since it has a vent which will let gasoline splash out. I buy gas in 5 gallon cans and it from them. Not the most convenient method. I got if from Northern.

You know this gives me an Idea. I may have to weld a quick plate on the back of my two wheeled hand truck. Tilt it back a bit, float and roll or just pick it up and set it to a higher place. I guess I will need to add the loops to the hand truck as well.

Get an appliance hand truck. They already have a strap. Weld it to a quick attach plate.

Thanks. I bet it is also the lightest attachment for a PT.

My feeling is that I will not use the strap lifter attachment very much, but it was easy to build and I could always use the quick attach plate for something else. Sometimes you have to build something and have it around to see how useful it is.

Using the quick attach plate for multiple uses is a good idea. I"m thinking the hitch adapter would be verstatile as well sinced so many things are made to fit hitches these days. I've also been thinking about a three point hitch adapter so I could use some three point hitch tools but that's last on my "versatility" list.

I was thinking of something similar. I need to be able to grab hold of a trash can and take it down to the end of a long drive. The wheeled dolly would work, but I would like it to be able to grab hold of one or two round or square trash cans without getting out of the seat.

JJ, I am attaching a picture of my trash can lifter attachment. It is for the big trash cans. Maybe it will give you some ideas. I don't use it much, but I figure it might be handy when I get a little older.
It will also lift attachments to a higher shelf.
