Plug the hole with something like a piece of cloth and use Scotchbrite first. If that doesn't clean it use some emery cloth.

I have just used a wire brush to clean the rusted male JIC fitting. Dont go to aggressive as the chamfered edge is the seal.

If you have a next time hold the lower nut and try to loosen the top nut in your highlighted post. If you have a Dremel tool insert a home made from a wooden stick, wooden peg in the opening at the top and clean away with the Dremel round wire brush wheel. Or use a wire brush wheel made for a electric drill.

A word of caution to those thinking heat. Be very careful about using open flame heat around hydraulic oil.
