I don't think it's Cyl. problem. Just a Guess! I'm with Ca. I would be looking at trying to look inside the Bell housing. The Ford Clutch that was stuck and you could see were someone tried to use a Prybar on the Clutch itself to get it loose. The shop agreed as soon as he showed me it. Prybar!
I didn't see it split but kind of wish I did. To be stuck that bad my guess Rust!.. What are we looking at with your tractor? Major rust and corrosion.

I think a talk with the shop is in order.

Looking at the loader under frame, I could see where it could possibly be done by myself. Just detaching the rear under frame bolts from the rear would leave the rest of it intact and all I would have to do is place some blocks under the loader frame. Then the tractor could be separated and the rear end supported. But, I think I will have the pros do it

The satisfaction of doing it yourself would be huge in this case, over just paying someone to do it. You have so much time and effort already invested in this project!.
However, there is a lot of concern about doing your first split. My first time ended up getting sold rather than splitting it, but that tractor was HUGE! (Ford 7710 4x4 with a Bomford boom mower on it)
We all have to make our on decisions, but seriously...I would love to hear you say that you did it, over paying someone else to do it.

Are you anywhere close to other Yanmar owners who might have done it? (You might update your location in your profile; it can help others help you)

Or have someone with mechanical talents who might undertake this with you just for the fun of it?

All the best,

Peter

290 hours would make it barely broken in. Did the neighbor explain why they parked it 7-10 years ago? The rust/corrosion could easily be from sitting in an unvented shed, but strikes me the history may be more important as to why they stopped using an essentially new tractor. If you've already paid for it, they may be more forthcoming with the real story, and then you'll have some valuable info on both the tractor and your neighbor.
