BaumaLight - Stump Grinders

I have one of these and am pleased with the operation. It really likes pine stumps and does well enough on fresh poplar stumps. Walks right through half rotten stumps. Not sure how handy it would be with a gear tractor but works nicely with the hst.
The one I have is the 1P/34. Not entirely clear where the link takes you. Simple design and cheapest by a significant margin. I don't have hundreds of stumps to grind so cheaper was important.

This is cool! Gravity feed! I thought there would be too much chatter to make this work. Thanks for the link. Now to make some drawings... ;-)

That machine would work best on a skid steer. Mine is only a 30hp model so I am going with the three point where I can use the 55hp available. Looks like it could use a couple more guards.. maybe its just me. Those cutter teeth look pretty aggressive.

I see I screwed up on the numbers. The one I have is the 1P/24. That style, straight off the PTO without a gearbox only comes with the 24" wheel. That wheel does have 34 Teeth. I haven't had an opportunity to try it on hardwood, not much of that around here. Less power would slow it down some. Still faster than anything else I have tried. Chainsaw, axe, fire, letting it rot or digging it out with my little BH then having to fill the hole and deal with the stump/root ball. I know the extra power makes a difference with the chipper. On the B7610 I had before I could pull it down pretty good chipping birch, the B3030 won't slow down with anything I can poke down the chute.

I have found that hardwood grinds much easier than the pine, whitepine being the worsrt.

No sir. That stump grinder is a product of Power-Trac which builds a group of articulated hyd powered machines.

My machine can put about 24 HP into the hyd motor on the stump grinder. The larger machines can put about 35 HP in the stump grinder.

It is also an excellent trencher.

Those are pretty neat. Thanks for sharing. It reminds me of a steiner/ventrac if those companies would optimize their designs. I like that they are made of metal instead of plastic. They look easy to work on and very maneuverable

While buying some plate steel from the local steel yard I noticed they had some 1" x 23 3/4" round disks. Have no idea what they were cut for or how but the edge was as smooth as could be. The disk weighs 129# and would cost forty five dollars. Really wanted 3/4 or 5/8 but pickings are limited. Drilling this thick piece for cutters and hub will take a lifetime. Would this be worth the extra effort or Should I continue the search ? A wheel of this size / weight certainly would not require any down force . With good bearings it also would be hard to stop from operating speed. Lifting / moving this piece would also present a problem.
