Stupid New Owner Tricks or What Not to Do with Your New Tractor

Here's a couple things to not to do... the one at an angle isn't that bad, was just mowing a ditch but felt kinda goofy... The one with the tractor stuck on the other hand I don't recommend... I think I was discing in January about 4 years ago, worked fine until I got down to that spot... I've since added several yards of dirt to that spot and leveled it out, drains better (you can see the ditch from the mowing picture about 50' past where I'm stuck). Since my disc is way too big for the tractor I think it's 8' wide and just a pull type so can't lift or disengage, was kinda a pain to get unstuck and stayed there for a few months, tractor was an easy extraction with the F350...

If that was fun, wait till you get stuck with a piece of mounted equipment.

BTDT as well, my tractor doesn't have a one way clutch on the PTO and I hadn't bought an external one until about a year ago, combine that with trying to mow reed canary grass when the ground is not solid with the pins for the 3pt on the mower too high so I can only get ~10" clearance at full lift and a FEL that is NOT easy to remove (and filled tires, combined tractor weight is probably 4k pounds). Anywho, that combo has been stuck about 10 times, a couple times I was able to get it out by dropping the brush hog off then dragging it out with a chain later, other times I just drug the whole mess out with the easiest vehicle... last year I lowered the pins a few inches which helped a LOT with the combination of the clutch.

I only have 5 hours on my tractor so I have PLENTY of time to "learn" still. I used my tractor to pull a buddy out of the ditch the other day and I had to get really close to his bumper to get into position. Well I had the throttle a little too high and as I let the clutch out the tractor jumped and sent the FEL into his bumper adding a nice little crease in the bumper. Luckily it was an old beater so no biggie. That oh $h!* what did I just do feeling still sucks, though.

Also the other day I was driving from my house to my property which is a little less than a mile. I was on pavement so I was going a little faster than I probably should have. I drive this road 2 or 3 times a day in my car so I am used to it. Well there is a shallow right hand turn onto a bridge over the creek that has a set of abandoned railroad tracks right in front of the bridge. I came around the corner a bit hot, hit the railroad tracks and bounced and skipped sideways a few times onto the bridge which span a creek that was at the time raging with flood water. Scared the crap out of me.
SLOW IS GOOD!

Make sure your ramps are installed when you back the skid steer out of your dump trailer. Good thing is skid steers land flat and you’ll get a great view of the sky..

You wouldn’t have had that problem with a HST...
