stupidest welding question you have heard

/ stupidest welding question you have heard #42
I was a ironworker in Boston on a job, when one of the owners of the company whom we were building the building for was observing a worker welding a gusset on a beam. When she was asked if there were any question on the process she was observing, she replied by asking: How long does it take to dry (the weld).

I am starting this thread to see what the stuipdest welding question is. The stupidest one I have heard is "If I hook gas up to my mig welder, can I use it as a cutting torch".
I am new to TBN, a non welder to date but soon to be taking an eighteen week welding class at my local JC. Per my expectations it won't make me a pro or anywhere near that level, I just want to know how to properly and safely administer some of the basic welding functions. I am retired, sixty-seven years old and checking out things that I haven't been able to learn along my life path due to other priorities.
deereman, I find your thread topic quite useless and not even funny. "Stupidest"? Might be you as there is no such word.

Hi tractor guys & gals...I'm newly registered to this site, but have watched it for some time.

Once my Dad was welding a cast iron part off a Ford 8n, and not being a very good welder, he was having all kinds of problems. He sent me 10 yrs old at the time, to walk down to my uncle's[WELDER A1] house to ask him "Can you weld cast iron" That was a stupidest worded question, because my uncle just said "yea I can weld cast iron" what did your dad send you here for? HA HA:laughing:

Wstf2,
It would appear that stupidest is a word. It is is the superlative form of the adjective stupid. My big old paper Websters shows it, as does Wictionary and several other online dictionaries. But having said that, I prefer to use 'most stupid'.

And I feel no need to accuse you of being stupid too. ;)

I looked in my Webster and didn't see it, looked again after your post and found it. Thank you whiskywizard for pointing out dictionary oversight and my apologies to you deereman75 but I will stand pat on the rest of my statement.

That is fine, I took no offence. I have had some mixed responses about this thread, and I respect everyones opionion. I would love to be able to take the welding course you are going to take, my father showed me how to weld, and I am not all that good. I am planning to burn another 20 lbs of rods this summer, and get better.

Not a stupid question, but a stupid ad for a welder on the local c-list. Guy was advertising an "Air Conditioned Lincoln" welder. I'm fairly new to welders, but I've yet to see the air conditioned option on Lincoln's website.
