Since many seem to be having snow (and snow removal) er..uh... events, I thought I would post pics I've been holding awhile of a mega snowblower.

These were custom made for Winter's Rigging in PA. I snagged them off another public site awhile back from an employee of Winter's. This is a Case W36 3-4 yard loader with aformentioned mega snowblower. The large box on the rear is an auxillary engine just to run the hydraulics for the blower. They have 4 of these lovelies and use them to clear drifts and snow slides from railroad tracks. Enjoy!

#4 last one...

On this job, they had some other machines helping. I'm told this slide took four days to clear working 24hrs a day.

Hopefully all your snow removal is easier than this... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Neat pics Scott. Our local airport has some pretty impressive snow removal equipment similar to that. For the "lighter" snows, they'll also equip a loader with a mega-wide blade. Probably 20 or more feet wide /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That’s an impressive looking piece of equipment Scott. It doesn’t appear overbuilt for the task it is working on though. That’s looks like a lot of snow especially to someone from South Texas. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

So what would be the biggest rotary snowplow? My vote goes to Southern Pacific Railroad’s Rotary Snow Plows. I had the once in a lifetime privilege to bare witness to mans battle against the elements in Donner Pass, CA. I was selected to shoot camera for a television documentary on the famous mountain pass and the men who work to keep it open. Words cannot describe the scenes I witnessed but thankfully my pictures tell a pretty good story of these massive rotaries in action. The documentary I shot is available on DVD and let me tell you it is an incredible story the likes I have not seen told since.
So if you like your rotary snow plows jumbo sized check out the tape. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

George, there are similar snow plows in Alaska, too.

Bird, Yes they do have them in Alaska but biggest and badest are or where here in California. I did a documentary on the Rio Grade Rotary’s built in the 1880’s or before in Chama New Mexico. That was also a real treat. The sheer mass and horsepower needed to throw snow that far is just amazing. They sure don’t build them like they used to. It was steel and more steel that was the engineering behind everything.
I found a link to a guy who took photos of the mighty Rio Grande Rotary in the spring of 1993. The economy of Chama New Mexico depends on getting the line open on time. That is why they still at the time, ran the plows.

Here in MN I saw this huge self propelled snow thrower. It looked like a self propelled forage harvester but with a big snowblower on the front. I bet Zuiko has seen them since we are in similar area. I would say the top of the blower is about twice of the pic you posted.
