Super Mongo Heavy Rotary Cutter....or just a medium one?

Helpful information, thanks!
Oh, an the new Peruzzo with the hammers seems to take more HP to run. I'm assuming the hammers have a lot more surface area & are less aerodynamic, causing more air resistance & drag. Not a really big difference, but noticable, especially in thicker grass.

I know Leonz always gets excited about a slow speed wet well grinder to sharpen things. But as it was beat to **** already I didnt wory about bouncing knives off rocks & things with the old 917. Those blades were as dull as could be. But as they were pretty thin steel they were plenty sharp enough for a very good cut. I havent had to sharpen the new Peruzzo hammers yet, but they will need it at some point. More steel by an order of magnitude, but the edge will get dull enough to have to put some effort into it here at some point.

Hello WoodChuckDad,

The main thing to remember is that you leave the engine speed of your mule at the 540 RPM PTO Speed "AT ALL TIMES" when mowing and if it gets over loaded the V belts will break.

I would not buy it UNLESS he can run it in front of you or you pay a farm equipment mechanic for an hours time and buy his dinner for his opinion that is intimately familiar with flail mowers and or flail shredders.

If you have a big shop, tools and a welder and perhaps an A frame hoist to do any work it may be a worthwhile a winter project

If he has a picture of it that he or you can upload all the better for us AND YOU.
I paid $100 for my Ford 917. Didnt know about flails at the time & figured I could almost break even on scrap.

Needed a new PTO shaft, belts & I replaced the knives. Promptly figured out by the racket that some of the knives were missing for a reason. Cut out the dented parts of the hood & put a patch on. Hood still has a lot of big cracks in it I'll never bother fixing.

It ran good until I mangled some knives on some big rocks & a well head. Ran good again after new knives. Rotor bearings died after a year or too. $100 & a good Saturday to replace them.

All told I'm $600 or so into the flail. It's mostly retired, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I still keep it as a spare & for jobs with lots of rocks & trash. I wont feel to bad about wrecking it & have a pile of partially worn knives if they get mangled.
