Super UDT Smell?

Fortunately it was part of the tractor deal for the dealer to do the 50 hour maintenance and the oil analysis. I decided I wanted to do it myself and they gave me all of the materials including UDT. When I asked about the 2000 manual no longer having UDT listed and now having only Super UDT, they exchanged 17 1/2 gallons of UDT for Super UDT at no charge, so gonna have to find another method. The cost was the same. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif I was hoping the oil analysis would tell, but Mark said they don't analize the weight. I have no idea what weight motor oil or hydraulic fluid they shipped the tractor with and neither does the dealer.

Damn and I thought as usual I was on to something well there goes that theroy all to heck. You have a good dealer by the sounds of it to exchange it even up. But to be able to tell the difference I have no idea. But I would guess that it has just udt from the factory but I have been way wrong before.

Did I read correctly that your using it in the front axle and also the steering knuckles as well? I thought the knuckles called for gearoil or has that changed also in the new manuals?

Gordon, that's another one of those things I think no one has figured out. The Operator's Manual for the 1999 B2710 says "KUBOTA UDT or SUPER UDT fluid* or SAE 80 SAE 90 gear oil" in the front axle case.

NOTE: *KUBOTA UDT or SUPER UDT fluid---KUBOTA original transmission hydraulic fluid

And the Workshop Manual calls for SUPER UDT or SAE80, 90 gear oil without including the regular UDT.

Wen - I went by my dealer's shop and got an ounce or two of both UDT and Super UDT. The Super UDT is noticeably thinner viscosity than the regular UDT. This jives with Kubota's SAE paper on Super UDT and a poster a long time back who said he called Kubota and they told him that Super UDT is 10w. I compared both samples with the same amount of Amsoil ATH and the ATH is about the same viscosity (from a visual inspection - I don't have a lab (not even the dog)) as regular UDT (at 90 degrees or so). Then I left them all on the dashboard of the truck in full sun for a couple hours. I didn't measure the temps, but they were very hot to the touch. The Super UDT was like water, while the the other two were pretty close to the same. I think the Amsoil was the thicker of the two, but it was so close it could've been because I wanted it to be. So later that evening I put all three samples in the freezer for a couple hours. Again, I didn't measure the temperature of the samples, but it certainly should've been the same as the freezer, about 5 degrees. Anyway, the Amsoil was the thinnest of the bunch, noticeably thinner than the Super UDT, which was much thinner that the regular UDT. I thought it was interesting, but there were certainly no surprises. To butcher a cliche': Try this at home, folks.

As my dad always said. "Any kind of oil is better than NO oil."

p.s. My 2000 Kubota manual and workshop manul say the exact same thing. That is why I am putting the Super UDT in. It probably will turn out that some guy just copied all that stuff from your manual.
